Over the last 2 weeks, I have purchased 2 CompM4S’s and returned them both. I wonder if I am being to picky or if I am just not understanding something correctly. The first one only had 15 power levels. Aimpoint says that there are 7 nv settings and 9 daylight setting. That means there should be 16 settings not including off. This one only had 15 setting and an off. I checked and counted a dozen times. And the closer the switch was to the off position, the tighter it was…it just seemed weird. I returned it without mounting it.
The second one would not mate up with the bobro mount that I bought for it. The screws that came with it were too long and they bottomed out in the sight housing before the whole unit was tight and secure. This may have been the fault of the mount, but I am not sure where to turn.
Both came from reputable dealers. Has anyone else noticed stuff like this?
As positive as possible without watching it come off the production line in Sweden…I bought one online from MidwayUSA and one in person at brick and mortar Rainier Arms store.
As for the bobro mount, I bought it from MidwayUSA…I tried using the short screws with no spacer, and they were too long…the optic just rattled about on top of the mount.
You tried to use the screws meant for the spacer, without the spacer, didn’t you? Yes, that will happen. There are 2 screw lengths that come with the M4. Call Aimpoint and they can send you whichever one’s you are missing. Gratis, in my case. As to the settings, I think that the lowest setting is setting #1. IT never does actually turn “off”, since “off” would have a higher intrinsic battery drain than powering the sight itself, they figured “why bother”? It won’t shorten battery life one bit. The battery self-discharges at a higher rate.
I have had good luck with Aimpoint customer service as well. Lost the long screws when I wanted to install the spacer on my CompM4. They sent me replacements, didn’t cost me a dime.
All 4 of my M4s’ have 15 clicks of knob power settings. I hope your new one also has the same as your first? You will be sending back a lot of aimpoints if you send them back with 15 clicks.
I have both sets of screws…as I said, I used the short ones with no spacer. They were still too long. I have since resolved all my problems…I a compm4 that had correct and consistent switch action, and I returned the bobro mount for the ADM one…all is well now, and I love the optic and ADM mount.
