Hi,
I found these guys a while ago. I have heard some say that they produce nice material. Does anyone here have any thoughts on how useful their training is?
I first heard of their material years ago and liked what I saw. I picked up the instructional videos they had out at the time and started to incorporate it into my toolbox. I don’t know if things have changed since then, but the material was simple and solid back then. I recommend it.
I appreciate any information I can get because my exposure these guys has been a little limited.
I took a course from them about 4 or 5 years ago, discovered them through Matt Thornton and SBG (straight blast gym). Everything I learned from ISR MATRIX I most definitely have used many many times and will use it many more times in the future. In my opinion, everything learned was extremely functional and practical, and most importantly you had no doubt in your mind that the techniques learned would be effective from day 1.
ISR MATRIX gets two thumbs up from me, I highly recommend them.
The program was created by Paul Sharp and Luis Guiterrez. It’s a very good program. Paul has nothing to do with Matt Thorton and SBG any longer. Luis is still affiliated with SBG & Thornton. Luis and Thorton have continued to offer training in ISR Matrix program and have begun ‘reimagining’ history in their marketing to purge any mention of Sharp.
From a press release for an ISR Matrix course last year:
ISR Matrix (Intercept, Stabilise, Resolve) was founded by Luis Guiterrez, Vice President of the Straight Blast Gym, in conjunction with a panel of specialist law enforcement and corrections defensive tactics trainers.
The original program was introduced in the early 2000s [2002 or 2003?]. Both Sharp & Guiterrez are credited as co-creators on the videos.
Good stuff.
I’ve done their course twice and written two articles on them: one that appeared in Black Belt; the other appeared in SWAT. One class I attended had Police Officers from Florida; the other was with an Air Force AFOSI DET 352. Both times I had a blast and would do it again if the opportunity came up.
I am not sure on the date that they introduced it. I believe it was the early 2000s. I do know that the two founders, Paul Sharp and Luis Guttierez, have known each other since the 1990s. They met in a Florida boxing gym, if I remember correctly.
They are the real deal.
Here are some of their U-tube videos that never fail to get me pumped:

And below are two articles I wrote about them.

I’ve not taken the class but I’ve interacted several times over the years with Paul Sharp and he’s not only a straight-shooter but he is extremely knowledgeable about self-defense both armed and unarmed.
I’ve wanted to attend an ISR class for a long time.
