Is this normal wear on a cam pin?

I was cleaning my LMT bolt tonight and noticed that the cam pin seemed kinda worn for only having about 1000 rounds through it. There is a lip worn into the side that will grab my fingernail. Here are some pics:

Is this normal?

Yes. Very normal.

This question comes up every so often.

Brings up another point, applying lube whereever you see metal to metal contact is a good general practice.

+1
I like a good application of TW25B in that area.

Good, I was wondering about that myself. Is that normal for all ARs or more specific to LMT?

I’ve seen this on every DI AR that I have and others as well. It shows to importance of inspecting certain parts and how much stress is on that part.

One of the first things I noticed with the ADC PD15 gas piston system is the cam pin shows little wear and lack of stress on the cam pin. His unique system bleeds off excess so it’s not beating the system up.

I use high temp grease on the cam pin for this reason.

+1 on the cam. I use 20W50 Mobile 1 liberally in this area as well.

I’ve always lubed mine with Tetra or FP-10. I’m glad it’s not abnormal. Thank you.

I grease the cam pin and grease the bottom of the carrier.

Drench the rest in your favorite oil.

Its not a LMT problem…cam pins wear like this regardless of the manufacturer. As mentioned above its just a part that wears and its due to the DI system. The bolt carrier being blown back off of the bolt when coming out of battery is just a bit violent and the cam pin is the stop.Thats why I have taken to the advice provided on this site of using the heavier M16 type carriers for more mass and the appropriate buffer to help slow things down a bit.
Cam pins wear and are cheap,so just keep a couple spares around. When you feel like there is enough wear on the part just replace it and move on.
Otherwise just keep them lubed up really well.

Woah? You mean you actually shot your gun. I thought these things were just for pictures .

The wear is very normal. Looks just like all of mine.
