If you mount a reflex sight on an AR’s carry handle, can you still use the irons in an emergency? Thank you in advance.
Not without removing the mount.
Thank you! Do you mean the rifle’s carry handle, or the reflex sight’s mount itself? If the latter, how would you attach it to the carry handle but still use the optics as a reserve? Thank you in advance.
A gooseneck mount with let you cowitness, as seen here: http://ultimak.com/ap10174.htm However, most carry handle mounts will be in the way: http://ultimak.com/ARMS-2.htm
Best solution is a “goose neck” that attaches to the carry-handle and drops the optic low and forward.
Otherwise, you are severely sacrificing cheek position on the stock, which is bad.
Considering that a decent goose-neck will run in the $100 area, the best solution is really to replace the upper with a modern railed upper.
Incorrect. Most carry handle mounts, including the ARMS mount shown on the link, have a hole that allows you to see through and utilize your irons. If you prefer having your RDS up high, you can find plenty of mounts that allow you to still use irons. They are less than ideal, as F2S mentioned, but it’s doable.
