Is There A Gunbroker Alternative...?

I have been selling and buying guns and parts there since 2001.

Now they want my DOB and a copy of my driver’s license so I can be “verified” before I can list anything else.

I would have thought my FFL and SOT would have verified me and I’m probably gonna stop using GB if they require my DOB and a copy of my DL.

Never really sold anywhere else. Are there any other auction sites that allow you to list items and a FFL will suffice?

Trying to get rid of boxes of parts and I always found the $1 start auctions were the best way to get that done and GB did once have a very large audience. 99% of this stuff is verbotten on places like Egay.

And if I list something for 50% of what it’s worth, it tends to just sit there.

All of these places have 1099’d me anyway, what the hell do they need my DOB and copy of my driver’s license for?

My Boss was after a particular lever action .22 some years ago. I would return early from lunch just to hear how Gun Broker had F’ed him again.
I knew bid on at least 6 of those rifles over time, he got sniped every time.
No Thanks

I’m a seller though, that wouldn’t be a problem for me.

But if the system is rigged for buyers, is probably rigged for Sellers.
On that note, if they have all of your information now, why would they possibly need more. I don’t blame you for looking for an alternative. Thats a lot of nonsense they don’t need to know.

Getting sniped is just a matter of somebody having a sniping program and he didn’t. They are cheap and easy to use, but at the end of the day you still better be sure about your high bid. I’ve seen two people set their high bid a lot higher than they thought they were gonna pay and ended up going against another snipe app.

The fact that a bid came in last second, especially with GBs 15 minute rule is meaningless. At the end of the day your boss was not willing to spend what somebody else was willing to spend. That doesn’t mean the auction was rigged, it means it was an auction.

I used to do a lot of $1 start auctions because I wanted to get it sold NOW. And lots of people thought they were gonna get a $1000 fun for 5-600 because that is where the bids were for several days. The people who were willing to pay $900 were the ones who got it at the end of the run.

My frustrations is I’m a FFL and a SOT. If it’s good enough for ATF then it should be all GB needs. I don’t trust them with my DOB and a copy of my drivers license. If I was a private seller, it would be different. I’d understand they are trying to control the scam artists. But once you verify my FFL (and GB has it on file) that should be all they need. It’s certainly all they asked for to allow me to be a transfer dealer.

So my FFL is good enough to help them complete transactions for buyers BUT it’s not good enough for me to list my own items. I think I’ll remove my license from their FFL network.

I look at Guns International more than Gun Broker, have you considered listing there? I’m not a seller, so there may be valid reasons you don’t use them.

They should do one like Reverb.com. If you buy anyone’s item, you pay via CC to Reverb, they ship much faster, and the seller gets paid faster (shortly after the shipment info is entered/confirmed). Gunbroker is a relic.

I was looking at some RDS listings on Gunbroker, and they’re still doing the Money orders and Certified check shit for people who don’t take CC. Ridiculous.

When did you get this notification…I have some recent listings that are gonna close in a couple days & some going up & haven’t seen anything?? Good grief, they have my FFL & Tax ID on file??

Gunsinternational is a good site with much less commissions I’m told if you know the price you want to list your items at…I prefer to run penny auctions & have only purchased from GI.

I didn’t get a notification. I went to list an item and got a message I needed additional verification to list it.

You literally can’t get sniped on GB, there’s a 15 min reset every time a bid is placed. Now, he may not have liked where the prices ended up but he certainly wasn’t “sniped”.

To be fair this occurred 15 years ago. I don’t know what the policy was then, or now, but it happened to me also. Once.
I don’t need that in my life so I stepped away.
As per the OP, I get very suspicious when people want information, even more so when they ask for more information later .
If there’s a better alternative, I hope he finds it.

Guess I’ll find out soon enough as I need to list some items soon.

If you lose an auction on gunbroker it’s your own fault…all ya gotta do is put in your max bid & let GB do the bidding.

Say you see a gun you want & it’s worth $1k in your mind, so just bid $1k & walk away…ya may win it for way less or lose it for $1005.00.

GB bids on your behalf to your max bid, so if the next highest bidder is is $800, you can win for $805 even though your max was entered at $1k.

Auction Arms is still there under the name of “Gun Auction”. Unfortunately they are a mere shadow of what they once were. Still, it enough people switch over it could be an interesting site again. There does appear to be pretty good volume in guns, but accessories and parts is DOA.

Is There A Gunbroker Alternative…?

Sure - Armslist, Tacswap, and GAFS for non-firearm items.
Just drop a listing, and wait for the lowballers, horse traders, tire-kickers, and general idiots to roll in…

Could it have something to do with many of the gun related sites/stores asking if you’re over 18 when you visit recently?

Doesn’t look like it. I actually made a purchase on GB last night without changing / updating anything.

I’m not sure what other reason they could need it for. If they have your ffl and ein that should cover their needs.
If you find out the reason, please let us know.

That the one I was trying to think of, I couldn’t remember the name. Bought a few gun off of Auction Arms years and years ago. GunsAmerica is another one but I’ve never actually used them.

I’m sure it’s just a “lazy” one size fits all solution applied to ALL sellers because non FFL sellers have pissed off enough people with their BS. Neckbeard auctions have forced buyers to demand verified sellers.
