I am researching these two guns, along with the plain 6920, and the LMT Defender. In looking at the 6940, is this a fair comparison to the MRP from LMT? I understand that the LMT has the ability to remove barrels with the wrench that comes with the gun, and that the Colt needs a special one that is yet to be released from Colt.
Which is a better choice from a rail construction prospective, and pleasure in ownership prospective? Or should I just consider the 6920, or Defender 16 and add rails later? What else needs to be condisered with these different platforms?
If this is your first AR15, then I would buy a traditional gun like the Colt 6920. I strongly suggest you do this first to learn the system and be compatible with everything.
I really don’t care for any of the monolith systems as of now.
I do not like the Colt system because it is not compatible with KAC panels and only comes in one size. It also have the widest rail width and is not good for ergonomics.
I do not care for the quick change LMT barrels.
I do not like the proprietary Vltor styling or the stupid forward assist/brass deflector module that is a separate part from the upper.
I like the how the Vltor and Colt have the ability to remove their bottom rail for service and M203 mounting.
