Saw a thing at the shotshow about a company making .308 uppers for regular 5.56 lowers, wondering if it is out yet?
My mind boggles atm on how you could fit a .308 into a .223 magwell. Last I checked, a .308 was too long to do so.
I could very easily be wrong though.

I suspect that it is doable if you want a single shot ar that won’t last very long.
MGI Hydra? Not quite a regular 5.56 lower though.
Then there was CMMG making G3 mag lowers for use with DPMS and AR-10 uppers. Though again, not a standard 5.56 lower.
First i heard of that combination. I cant see how its possable, unless you use some type of mag block in a .308 lower.
7.62 NATO’s case is 51mm long, the 5.56 NATO case is 45mm long.
Square peg in round hole…
Is this the AR15 platform with a 308 bolt face? I thought it was the 30 Remington
I’ll add this weapon to my Unicorn/ACR list.
It was a special on the Outdoor Channel covering this year’s Shot Show. The company wasn’t one I had heard of before, and yes the .308 bolt face sounds familiar. It was a standard 5.56 lower, no idea if it was a single shot rifle or what the gimmick was.
I don’t think it was this rifle but I’ve also seen an upper (either out or in development) that feeds from the top or side with a magazine and ejects shells out of the traditional magwell.
Hey did you see that Chevrolet Mustang 330xi in Car and Driver this month?
Maybe this thread could be started over by someone who knows what they are asking/talking about…
