I bought mine at Bass Pro, came Natural gear camo painted stock and SS FINISH it says??
If your barrel is the silver colored one, it is stainless.
The receiver is painted aluminum.
Yeah, the receiver is painted. On my black receiver, I wanted it to match the Kidd stainless barrel I was putting on it so I stripped the paint using some kind of paint stripper then bead-blasted it lightly, then hand-sanded it using 320 up to 1500 wet/dry sandpaper. Then I buffed it up on a grinder with buffing wheel and some jeweler’s rouge. I can tell you that Ruger doesn’t put any particular effort into finishing the bare aluminum of the receiver and relies on the paint to hide the very extensive tool marks that show up on that piece once the paint is stripped away. OTOH, it’s aluminum and sanding it down isn’t that onerous a task. You can get a beautiful mirror finish without that much effort. Finish with a little sealer and some automotive wax and you have a very nice, durable finish. I haven’t done anything else to mine, it’s seen pretty rough duty without much maintenance, and still looks like a mirror.

Thanks for the replies. I’m hoping it shoots well as it sits. If it does not shoot MOA, I’ll buy a Kidd barrel. I’m hoping I got a good barrel that likes most decent ammo.
But if I don’t, you guys did already answer that question. . Kidd!
Kidd is an absolute class act for sure. Their aftermarket parts are superb.
I had a 10-22 Target Tactical - the one with the heavy target barrel and “upgraded” trigger (“upgraded” being a relative term). That rifle would shoot just a hair over MOA right out of the box and cycle any ammo I could find. OTOH, the rifle I built on that 20-year old receiver will shoot under a MOA all day long, and the thing I like about the Kidd barrels is that they also will shoot and cycle almost any ammo.
Don’t encourage him.
Sounds GREAT!!!
Mark has a refrigerator and oven, we good to go.
Gotta get these Rugers Nam certified.
Which NightForce are you putting on this?
I’m getting a special mount to put my spotting scope on this. Need 60x for shooting rabbits at a thowy.
I’m pretty sure he’s going with a Scmidt & Bender. Isn’t that what everyone puts on 10/22s?
