Is speedfeed really that crappy?

Got a basic 870 stock, and LE forend for my 870. The rear stock has mold lines all over it, fits the receiver like crap, the recoil pad fits the stock like shit, ect.

The forend will not allow the nut to screw onto the forend tube. The nut goes in but wont thread onto the tube. The way the stock aligns the tube to the nut its impossible for the nut to thread on.

Is there a QUALITY set of synthetic stocks out there? Its really just an old beater gun I got in the 90’s that Im trying to spruce up a little bit. I also got a Scattergun 2 round extension, a Vang Comp SS follower, ect. All I want is a basic stock that isn’t a POS. I thought speedfeed was one of the better ones out there…?

When Bill Davis ran it they were good stocks…

I have six and none of them are like what you are describing. Perhaps you got a lemon or perhaps their QC is declining. They are owned by BAE systems and I have always had excellent CS from BAE. I would contact them and I imagine they will make it right.

There’s a reason Nighthawk uses Hogues.

Wow, that’s the worst stock I’ve ever seen… how do you know it’s supposed to be a Speedfeed? It might be a knock-off.

Bought from Midway USA. I doubt they are selling knockoffs.

Wow. Yeah, I doubt it too.

Definetely give Speedfeed a call. As indicated before, I prefer Hogues, but I’ve never seen or handled a Speedfeed anywhere near that crappy.

Personally I am partial to the hogue over molded line. I find they give great fit and finish as well as increased dexterity with the SG.

Damn, I guess Safariland has let them slide some.
I would call Safariland/Speedfeed and tell them “It is a POS, and it stinketh.” Those pics are probably the worst stock I’ve seen from what is supposed to be a top line manufacturer. Hell, I’ve seen ATIs that didn’t look that bad.
None of the Speedfeeds that I’ve had have looked like that.
See if they will replace it.

That does not appear to be a speedfeed stock to me. I have owned several, and the checkering on yours does not look like the checkering on the stocks that I have had. Also, on the bottom of the grip, the speedfeed stocks have an emblem with a gold “SF” in fancy lettering. I don’t know if they make some kind of budget line, but it looks to me like Midway might have sent you the wrong stock. I just ordered a new speedfeed youth stock from them a couple of days ago so I will let you know what mine is like when it gets here.

I am not a big fan of the Hogue youth stocks because I find them too short.

Your stock looks exactly like my speedfeeds, so I do not think they sent you the wrong stock. Only the older ones that I have seen have the gold lettering. The texturing looks like all of mine as well.

I don’t usually pay attention to how my stocks look and they get beat up pretty quick anyway, so your stock doesn’t look that bad to me. If the mold lines make it uncomfortable to handle or shoot, I would contact BAE at 1-800-433-2909 and choose option 2 at the menu. I had to contact them yesterday and they are very helpful.

Yes I’ve noticed Speedfeed has lost some of their cosmetic looks as of late. They work fine but aren’t as nicely finished as they once were.

None of the Speedfeeds I’ve ever owned had gold lettering. The texture on the stock in those pictures also looks exactly like the texturing I’ve had on mine. Those were direct from the factory Speedfeeds as well.

Wow, news to me. Even the picture of the one I ordered off of Midway USA is not even close to what is pictured in this thread. I will actually be fairly disappointed if my inbound stock shows up looking like this one. Every one I have seen, or owned has had the gold lettering, and the checkering has been much different than the texturing on the one here.

Strangley enough, about twenty minutes ago I got my order from Midway USA. The speedfeed stock I received is the sport youth model for the 870. It has the original air cut style of checkering and the gold stylized letters on the bottom of the grip, nothing like the one pictured here. Fit and finish are top notch. I really wonder what is going on here?

Well I got a Remington 870 youth stock set today, and its fits much better than this POS. Seems to be made out of better materials, too.

Belmont, is the one you originally pictured one of the ones that holds the rounds in the stock? After looking into it, that seems to be the one with the same type of texturing as in your photo. I just go my youth stock mounted up, and I like it much better than the speed feed IV-S pistol grip that came original on my 870 police max.

No its just a regular 870 stock. No shell holders or anything.

That’s the Speedfeed II SOLID stock series you have there, which in my opinion is probably one of the best synthetic stocks for the 870.

I spent weeks trying various synthetics stocks for the 870 including the Hogue, and the other Speedfeed stocks (IVs, youth, etc) and what makes the II (the one you have) superior to the others is that it is pretty much solid throughout. The others are formed in a manner where they end up being more hollow which is good for only saving weight.

I needed a good stock that could easily be shortened and the shallow cavity (at pad end only) in the II series allowed an easy fill of Acraglass after cutting with the use of a short PVC tube for stock bolt access. The other stocks had too much hollow space, continuous at both ends which would have made things difficult.

Yes, it isn’t the prettiest of stocks, has mold lines, fit to the receiver is off, but the heft and strength of the stock can’t be beat. I can step on the stock and have no fear of breaking it. The others will flex and the hollow cavity does not impart any confidence if I ever needed to use the stock to deliver any impact. I used a little sandpaper, scotchbrite wheels and well as carbides to clean my SF II’s up. The perception of recoil is also reduced with a solid heavy stock, versus the lighter hollow designs of the others.

It’s no Beretta o/u with EELL wood, but I’d put this stock up against anything out there for the 870.

This is the ONLY hollow portion of the Speedfeed II stock:

…and it is VERY shallow.
