I’m not new to AR’s, but I picked up a Colt 6920 MOE last week at the beginning of the madness to add to my inventory. This is my first Colt believe it or not. I checked it out at the shop and made sure it looked GTG before I bought it but I didn’t notice this until I got it home.
The inside of the upper looks like it didn’t have all of it’s coating applied. At first I thought it might be some shipping grease that was sprayed in and caked on, but after trying to clean it off it appears that a layer of coating wasn’t fully applied to the inside of the upper. That being said, I’m no expert on how the aluminum is finished on these rifles, but I’ve never seen this before on my other AR’s. I snapped a couple of pics. Let me know if I’m being a paranoid dumbass or if I should send it back.
Are you talking about the dry lube coating or the anodizing?
The dry lube coating will look unevenly applied and will eventually wear off.
This is normal.
Chances are your other AR’s never had the dry lube applied to begin with.
A dry lube coating would make sense. I’ve just never seen this in my other new AR’s. It looks like something was sprayed in. I cleaned it with some solvent but it wouldn’t come off. That’s why I thought it might have been anodized improperly because it makes the finish look unevenly applied.
