Ok guys I dont want to be that guy who starts one of those threads, and I apologize if it seems that way but here I go…
For the past month iv been back and forth on purchasing a Noveske N4 16 basic and a Daniel defense M4V3/V5.
Iv narrowed it down that far! (Finally)
Id like to build something but im in no way set up for that so I think I have to buy something complete.
Im pretty new to high end ARs and unfortunately there’s no stores local where I can handle them so im in the dark on that.
So what im looking for is someone who has first hand experience or at least a well informed opinion?
I plan on using it for range time maybe some classes down the road, some plinking in the woods, home defense, Ect.
I know i can do that with a DPMS but I want something high quality.
What I dont like about the DD is that 90% of that rifle is made by DD.
I feel like a company who makes great guitars wont make great strings or amps. And i relate that to DD. Am I completely wrong?
What concerns me with the Noveske is that the only one in my price range is there lowest model and I dont know if they have the same quality as the $2500 models.
Iv done tons of googling and searching threw this site and found a lot of ppl prefer the Noveske… But Other than there barrels I dont understand why. Am I missing the bigger picture?
The difference in price doesn’t really concern me, I learned early that you get what you pay for, but what i really want to know is, is it that much Superior? I want a gun that can go 1000’s of rounds, get beat to hell and still be solid.
Either way im going to be waiting on the rifle to be in stock (Ive found the DD for a low as 1200 and iv contacted the dealer and theyre waiting on being restocked and Noveske said 2-4 weeks)
If there’s anyone on here who is willing to share there knowledge or first hand experiences it would be greatly appreciated.
Don’t get hung up on chrome lining. It comes down to the attention paid during the machining of each individual barrel. The Noveske non-stainless barrels still shoot ~1.25 MOA (10 shot groups). I have never seen a DD barrel that could do that.
I’ve seen and shot DD barrels that shot 1MOA, and from what I’ve seen, they can hang with Noveske just fine. For 99.99% of the shooters out there, they will NEVER be good enough to benefit from the accuracy a Noveske or DD barrel can offer.
I’d listen to polymorpheous and get the DD and buy as many mags and as much ammo as I could with the money left over.
I am not claiming 1.25" MOA out of a barrel, you put me in my place, that is fantastic shooting. I was not in any way trying to pick a fight, you just get use to people claiming things with no proof, again you have the proof.
I will echo the above recommendation though, for someone new looking for a do it all Carbine, he would be better served with the DD and money left over for mags and ammunition.
You’re also shooting a 20" barreled upper there, this individual is asking for something in the 16" range.
Not to mention the quality assurance standards that some manufacturers adhere to compared to others. Not all barrels, even on the same machine, come out the same. A stricter standard means more barrels fail, which in turn means the ones that are good enough to sell are more expensive.
In my eyes, YES, a Noveske is worth the price. That’s why I bought an N4 Lo-Pro, for their barrel their attention to detail and overall quality. They rank at the very top.
Those are Molon’s tests, not mine. Of relevance to this discussion are the 16" and 14.5" hammer forged barrels in that post - the others are stainless barrels.
I do not, or Noveske would not be known for their barrels as well as they are.
For a do it all rifle with no specific purpose I believe the OP would even suffice with a BCM with a standard barrel (non hammer forged). The extra money for something that shoots such tight groups would be better spent towards training which will give develop the ability to shoot such groups down the road.
All of this is just my humble opinion of course. I’m just a dumb fireman that likes guns. :jester:
I don’t take pics of my shot groups. Sorry to burst your bubble. Perhaps you can post a link to some of YOUR shot groups instead of providing a link to someone else’s work.
OP: The Noveske would be the “better” of the two choices, IMHO, if accuracy was the primaryc criteria. Molon has done a great job documenting how accurate the CL Noveske barrels are. Question is: Do you have the skill and the ammo needed to fully exploit the capabilities of the Noveske?
In the end, both rifles will make a great hard use rifle, with the Noveske being the more accurate of the two.
Here are some of mine, though they aren’t exactly relevant to the discussion… Why would I go out of my way to test something that Molon has already shown?
