I was just wondering if it is work going through the time and stuff to get a tax stamp for a short barrel rifle? I have been pondering this for awhile and I cant decide. I 've been wanting to get a 12" to a 14.5" 6.8 but I havent been able to convince myself to go ahead and do it. I do most of my traning with the M4 platform with the military so i usually dont go out and shoot matches or get additional training on my civilian time. But I would also just like to have one. As some of you know I already have a 6.8 in a 16" barrel.
I’ve also thought about just taking my barrel off and getting cut and threaded for a shorter (legally of course). I would just like to have everyones input. I also have a wedding to pay for in September so this will also require me to convince the future wife of allowing me to do it as well.
Yeah, money wise is not really a problem consindering that I was able to pay off my debts from my Afgan deployment and the wedding is really cheap only like $3000 (thank God she wants a small wedding). Oh and i love the work you do with all the pics.
The problem is, once you have a couple of SBR’s you never want to run your other longer guns. The SBR’s are just so handy and easy to move with, compared to a 16" or longer rifle.
I have been on the fence about this one as well. I most clearly wanted an SBR right before my better half reminded me so genteelly that it was a mere 4 inch difference. After rationalizing it to myself and handling my NCOIC’s 11.5, I have decided to block out her negativity. I just won’t be rushing into it like I was going to do. Now I’m deciding between 11.5 and 12.5; while I like the ballistics of the 12.5 better, if my rationalization works better with 11.5. If she asks when I order the upper, I’ll remind her of the difference 4 inches can have.
i love my tax stamp but i used mine for a suppressor for my 14.5 pinned rifle and my next one will be for a full auto somthing and i just found a m249 for sale might just have to get a divorce
I almost can’t stand shooting non-SBR AR15s. It is rare that I take a non-SBR AR to the range. The SBR is a perfect home defense weapon for me in my environment.
I’m the opposite. I almost never shoot my SBRs. I think guys should SBR a gun or two if they can legally do so in their state. I don’t regret SBRing my guns, but I don’t shoot them very much.
Get the stamp, but do a form 1, its way faster and you can just convert your favorite lower you already own, by simply engraving it. I am happy I did it, now I have 3 different uppers that all have cans on them with the longest one being slightly longer than a stock 16" bbl AR. Beware, it is addictive and can get expensive in a hurry.
