My chopped G17 is great for 75% of situations, but certain times require something smaller, but I don’t want to resort to a P3AT if I can help it.
I have a PPS but it’s a little small for me and I’m not crazy about the baseplates. I always pinch my palm during reloads. I also don’t like the paddle mag release, and I tend to ride the slide stop. In short, it’s not built for me, but it’s tiny and I can shoot it well.
Any major downsides to the CCP? I didn’t see much in my reading. The safety looks weird, and it seems to have a heavier trigger. Anything else I should consider?
My personal observation of the CCP is limited to dry firing and handling in the store only. The trigger on the couple of samples I’ve handled were horrible. If the PPQ doesn’t fit your need, there are alternatives. You stated that you have a G17, since you’re already familiar with that platform, why not stick with that brand and system and go with the G43. I can’t believe I’m recommending a Glock. But I suggest you stick with what you’re familiar with.
My experience is similar to Sam’s. I handled and dry fired it at a show side-by-side with the PPQ. The CCP may look like a PPQ, but it doesn’t feel anything like it, especially the trigger. If you bought the PPQ for the trigger and think the CCP will be the same, but smaller, you’d be wrong. The gun, to be honest, felt cheap to me. I’d look elsewhere, either a G43, like Sam suggested, or a Shield.
First time I have heard the PPQ described as a little small and tiny but… I really like it M2, but I too can’t seem to stay away from the slide stop. I too considered the CCP but after handling one I came to the same conclusions as the rest of you. I seriously considered the G19, but went with the PPQ, and do not regret it.
The CCP is nothing like the PPQ, its not for me, and IMHO I don’t think you would be happy with it either.
Not trying to agitate here, but this strikes me as odd. You might need something smaller than a chopped G17, but a PPQ is a little small for you? A chopped G17 grip should be a tiny bit smaller than a PPQ one. Perhaps you’re referring to a different aspect of size that I’m not getting.
I would agree. I have shot the PPQ, but only handled the CCP. I really was not impressed with the CCP myself, but that is just personal preference. Just like suggested above, check out the G43. I am one of those “crazy” guys, who loves his Glocks, so naturally I’m gonna give the nod to that platform. Really though, the G43 is a good shooting platform. JMHO.
My good buddy bought one after we rented one at our local range. It was accurate, ergonomic and functioned reliably. Unfortunately, his gun isn’t doing as well as the gun we rented. It is chock full of problems. Sometimes he can’t even make it through a mag without experiencing a FTE on EVERY round. He just sent it back to Walther for the 2nd time. I would hold off to see if they hash out their QC issues.
GAH! It is a PPS. I had a brain fart when I was typing because I had been reading about Walther pistols, and PPQ stuck in my head. Sorry for the confusion!
My personal PPS 9mm has been both accurate and reliable—I like the paddle mag release as it’s similar to my HK pistols—I don’t see any reason to change if your PPS works well…
If you are set on getting another Walther to replace your PPS I would hold off for a bit. There is still a chance that Walther CS will listen to customer concerns and tweak the current generation CCP.
