I was just wondering how many people think the break in process is necessary and if anyone thinks it really is a waste of time?
Add me to the waste of time group.
Do a search. This has been discussed many times.
BTW, I’m with Airhasz. It’s not needed.

I feel the same I figure if you just shoot it will smooth out any imperfections on its own if that was the case why buy it if u have to put in work the factory should have done?
The best answer is, it depends.
If you have to ask though, the answer is no.
I’m just asking
Yes, there is a breaking in procedure for ARs. You load as many rounds that will fit in the magazine. Insert magazine, point muzzle in a safe direction, downrange works for most everybody. Charge weapon, align sight picture with target, and press trigger. Repeat as often as your free time and budget will allow! It’s that simple. ![]()
It’s only a waste of time if you have something better to do with that time. If somebody is new to the platform, it’s probably not a bad deal that they’ll actually take it out, shoot it, break it down and clean it a couple times early in the process of owning it. For accuracy/functionality, you’ll know if you’re spending the kind of scratch on a barrel where it’s even a consideration, but as much as the consensus is that it’s not required, I wouldn’t advise somebody that it’s bad, just not as efficient a use of their time as running drills or setting up more targets.
