Is Insight replacing the Procyon?

Is Insight replacing the Procyon with the WX150?

Yes.
(The message I have entered is too short)

thanks.

(long enough)

I sent a Procyon in for a broken screw head and they sent me the WX150 as a replacement. I don’t see a difference.

$20 more, 5 meter waterproof instead of 1 meter, and 150 illuminatti instead of 125. I hope the controls are the same as I just ordered one…

that sounds promising:) my procyon just shit the bed yesterday. the left side battery contact coil disconnected from the activation wire on the backplate/switch plate.

This could possible be of the few things that Duct-Tape can’t fix.

If I had a camera worth a damn I would love to disprove the theory that 150 lumens is brighter than 125.

I cannot tell the difference when shining both the Procyon and WX150 side by side. Maybe my old eyes just can’t tell the difference.

how is the color? is it white white or blue white, or is it slightly warmer (pinkish or yellowish)?

they make two different versions of the WX150 - one is a warm tone light that is only rated at 100 lumens. I know the “color” of the light affects how we perceive its brightness and how easily we can resolve what we see in it.

For me; 150 lumens is fairly excessive for indoor use. Now if you are using it outside, it will work ok. I tend to keep my lights around the 110-120 lumen mark.

Mine has a slight pinkish blue and is definitely marked 150 Lumen strobe.

I think it is almost too bright for indoor use but throwing that amount of light at your target will have the desired effect, I don’t have any mirrors mounted on my walls(minus the bathrooms), so I don’t worry about blinding myself. I know my night vision is already shot from years of abuse to my eyes, damn desert sand and lack of suitable eye protection didn’t help.

NC, this is something I wondered about. most folks who have an opinion will say anything over about 80 (like a G2) is too much for inside. but most, if not all, of the attachable weapon lights are above 100. what’s the catch?

something that I have come to understand is that lights are rated differently. some rate the “throw” and others rate at the “source”, the source being right next to the LED. what you see (the throw) is actually a combination of the light output and efficiency of the reflector.

the light will have two areas, the central hotspot and the surrounding spill, or some call it overthrow, corona, etc… some lights have a very bright spot, not much spill, or vice versa, and this affects how bright you perceive the light to be.

if the reflector is designed to cover a larger area, like a flood light, the overall light will appear dimmer than another light even if it has a higher lumen rating.

I have a TLR-1 rated around up to 135 lumens and a Fenix TK-10 handheld light rated at 225 lumens. inside, they actually appear to have similar brightness but the entire “spill” on the Fenix is much brighter and more even. outside at night, the difference is even more apparent as the Fenix can practically double the usable distance of the TLR-1.

I dont think I’ve ever seen 80 lumens mentioned as a cap. The most common cap I see is 125 lumens. This number is often cited for indoor use in order to limit “self blindness” when you inadvertently hit a mirrored surface or high gloss wall with the light. I’ve expereinced this occurance when using a Surefire 10X that was pushing over 500 lumens.

I’m also not a fan of strobing lights due to some issues I’ve encountered with light bouncing back from autoglass.

I believe most lights that are in the Surefire 300, Procyon, TLR category are primarily intended for L.E. use outdoors. I think that’s why they have higher lumens vs handhelds like the G2 etc…

well, i emailed the nice people at Insight yesterday and they responded within 10 minutes:) im getting a new backplate, no questions asked.

I don’t see the WX-150 listed on their site:

http://www.insighttechgear.com/products.htm

But I’ve found it for sale via a handy-dandy Google search.

look at this:

@ra2bach,

Thanks for the link. I was actually checking it out at OpticsPlanet a few days ago. I think the price was $179 then, now $175. I’m still a little puzzled why it isn’t on Insight’s web site.

How’s the holster fit with either the Procyon or the WX150 in holsters designed for the Surefire X300 lights?
