I really like that 6720R, pretty surprising offering from Colt. The $1250-ish price tag doesn’t seem too far off, depending on the quality/weight of the rail. What say you folks?
But then, I’ve got a DD 12" OmegaX just collecting dust around here, I guess I could send it to Grant for placement onto one of his…
Edited to add: I’m having trouble finding out what rail it is. Can anyone ID it based on this gigantic image?
Installing a FF rail for accuracy? Dumb on a 6720.
Installing a lightweight, longer handguard to improve shooting stance and accessory options? Depends on cost.
My recommendation would be the 6720 with DD 12.0 FSP rail (OmegaX or Lite), or the Centurion C4 12.0 FSP.
The latter is a more DIY capable drop in (get it from Rainier Arms), the former is available from G&R Tactical (stock dependent, but it’s a brilliant option and worth the wait).
My reasoning on buying a 6720R would be to get that, ditch the rail and stock, and install a Centurion rail (10") and either a MagPul Stock (CTR, MOE, STR) or VLTOR IMOD.
I’d shave down the FSB and install one of the newer 13" Troy Alpha rails. The LW barrel has all the accuracy you need and the added rail length will accoodate a host of accessory options and shooting styles. Nearly all of my rifles now feature LW barrels and longer rails. They drive and shoot like a dream. I can’t stand 7" handguards or rails anymore.
This is the configuration I’m contemplating now, probably with the centurion rail since I wouldn’t have to buy a different wrench.
With everyone downplaying the barrel I would actually like to see what kind of accuracy it’s capable of. Molon has posted some respectable groups out of colt barrels.
After reading this thread and chewing on it for a couple of weeks, this is pretty much where I wound up. The extra couple hundred bucks for the 6720R was worth it for me to not have to deal with the future headache of attempting to shave the FSB. I know it’s probably a trivial operation for a lot of y’all, but like someone else’s sig file says, my home gunsmithing tends to begin with a Dremel and end with an order for new parts…
I just got a 6720R my self the other day. Litterly 3 days ago. Love the gun. Hate the rail. It’s loose and rotates. So I’m sending it back to colt. Was quoted a 3-6 month wait. We’ll see.
Wish they would have put dd rails on it in and a moe stock. But love the lw barrel and everything else.
