Are EOTech holographic sights worth buying if they’re on sale under $600?
Some people love 'em, some people hate 'em.
I was thinking if I got a good deal on one, I could sell it later for not much loss if I ended up not liking it.

That’s a tough question to answer. I keep an Eotech for reference, but almost never use it. I pull it out once per year and by then it needs a new battery, which is annoying.
I think it’s a better sight if you run it regularly. I’m spoiled on the Aimpoint battery life/constant on.
I really should bring mine into a regular rotation to see if I can grow to love it.
If you need to put your rifle into use as fast as you can get it into your hands from a more relaxed posture, like for a bedside gun, or if you’re a patrol cop, you’ll prefer an Aimpoint, which can just be left on and PCI/PCC’d daily.
If you employ your rifle in such a way that you turn on optics as part of your PCI/PCCs before departing to go to the range/callout/raid/match, and then turn it off when returning, then you’ll get along well with an Eotech.
If you have to ask that question and giving it a price tag, then it’s not for you.
Very wide FOV.
Perfect for night vision.
Great for those with an astigmatism.
The ones complaining about battery life aren’t getting them by the pallets on the taxpayer’s dime.
The new EXPS DCR is easier to use by those who’s job it is to put holes in bad people, than a Sig Romeo series with dots so tiny for holds that it makes the complaints about the TA31’s eye relief very small in comparison.
If you are looking for a do all close quarters rifle dot, and get free batteries or can afford battery replacements, go for it. But if you want a dot to do it all and want the dot to be as small as 1 MOA and is concerned about batteries that you are paying yourself to replenish, then get an Aimpoint and be done with it.
Yes, they are worth it. I have two, my wife has another. Only reason I don’t have 3 myself is I got a good deal on a Vortex UH-1 equivilent, and had it in time for the last deer season.
For me it’s not the cost of batreeze. I get them in bulk and have a ton of CR123a. It’s more of the annoyance of picking up a gun/sight I haven’t ran, but it’s out of gas anyway.
That’s why I say it makes a better sight for someone activley running it… weekly or so.
In the Army, I left my M2, M3, or M4 CQO’s on all the time, never had to swap out a battery on my own accord but I did have to when the units I was in had made me do it before each time we left the gates. It was our tacsop to.
As a civ, I never leave them on 24/7 at all and both EXPS’s that I have owned for years are still on their very first batteries and these rifles do get used once or twice a month. The only dots that have been on 24/7 was my first pistol red dot and it’s still on the first battery, RMR T2 that was my first carry gun optic. The other two is the P2 on my G45 nightstand and SHTF secondary, and the RomeoX Pro Compact on my Xmacro. None so far (knocks on wood) have needed to be replaced.
My handguns get me to my rifle. If I have to use a rifle, then things have gone terribly wrong that I probably should have not gotten myself into or should have extracted away from.
Yeah. I shut all my RDS off except my main m4. That one stays on full time.
Familyfirearms.com has the EXPS2 for $449.99
