no, they’re different. BFG uses different spacing than the crye, and different shaped slits. also, crye is the only one that’s using airlite material, which has more stiffness and strength than the hypalon-like material everyone else is using.
BFG also has a Plate Carrier instead of the chest harness shown, that has backing behind the plates. Wouldn’t the plates against skin cause issues with sweat contamination on plates on the Crye?
it’s no different than the S&S Precision plate frame, which exposes the plate as well. the airlite is not meant to replace an ‘everyday’ carrier like the AVS, JPC, CPC etc - it’s to be used when light weight and minimalism take priority over long term damage to plates from exposure to sweat or the elements. think about operating in and around salt water - a normal plate carrier with plate sleeve/covering is going to get soaked and retain more weight and salt water than the airlite.
also, when thrown over low profile soft armour to ‘armour up’, there’s going to be soft armour between the person and the plate anyway.
the airlite isn’t going to be a comfortable as a conventional padded/support PC for extended use, but wasn’t intended for that anyway - crye has other products to fulfill those needs. some of crye’s products are designed at the request of niche users, and may not be applicable for more general applications.
Not planning on going topless, but sweat does bleed through shirts, especially Wicking material shirts designed for wear with PC/BA.
That makes more sense. It probably helps with a larger budget for the people it is intended for. It isn’t intended for a everyday use without replacement/one time use of plates, thanks.
I don’t know where I learned to read, but I should get my money back. I responded thinking you were concerned about the material irritating bare skin. I guess I let my mind take over after a few words and responded anyway.
I quoted you too and still responded with that thought in mind. I apologize.
ETA: I think that on pages with wide pictures I have a habit of not scrolling right. I read “wouldn’t the plate against the skin cause issues,” at which point the quote left my screen and I suppose I thought I knew what you were going to say.
Hey, no problem, I guess I did say skin in the original, but I meant to say straight against a very thin breathable moisture wicking shirt. I think any PC Nylon or other material would be raw on the skin directly. I was probably typing too fast or distracted by someone talking around me here haha. I just know how much they preach about sweat contamination/moisture on plates, but as he stated, it wasn’t meant for long term use, more for mission specific/minimalist gear in mind and budget for new plates of no concern.
I like it now that I understand the intentions behind it. Does traditional molle equipment work with the spacings on the slots? Do they also make airlight material pouches for the PC?
yes, the slots are molle compatible. no, pouches don’t need to be made out of airlite as they don’t need to provide the same strength and support a platform does. airlite is lighter than traditional sewn molle platforms; it’s not lighter than pouch fabric.
MM nailed it; thanks Bro. I would add that our ULTRAcomp laminate is proprietary to Blue Force Gear and has much greater abrasion and tear resistance than most Hypalon style fabrics.
I don’t usually bump old topics, but I didn’t feel it was appropriate to start a new topic for such a simple question. Whatever happened to this? I looked on Crye’s site and didn’t see it listed amongst their other carriers. Also MM, has anything in your opinion changed since you posted your review on the MM site?
