Uel here…how can I help you? I have more. They were made by Fidelis Arms in Oregon in 2010. At the time Fidelis was making CMMG and Bravo Company as well as about six others. We have had great results building rifles on them, I’ve run my two carbines each over 35,000 rounds (each on second barrel), no issues with lowers. Had two bad ones total out of the batch (500) and we stood behind those and Fidelis stood behind us on them.

If you are asking about the receivers, from what I understand there are only a handful of companies that actually make them. The various manufacturers contract their services. There used to be a list floating around of which brand used the particular flavor of lower.
Anything man made will have some margin of error in it. It is up to the QC folks to keep the problems from getting out, and the CS folks to make everything right if something does slip out. BCM has a pretty good record with both accounts.
Did you read the second paragraph of his post? Some companies have higher standards and better quality control. These companies pull items that don’t meet their standards, while other companies might send it out anyway.
BCM like other companies assembles their stuff but most of it isn’t made by them.
As far as lowers go only a handful of companies make the raw forges for them and more do the final machining on them. In most cases SOT’s will get a variance with the ATF. It pretty much says a company like LMT, Mega, CMT, LAR, etc can make the lower receiver and put the SOT’s name on the side.
In many cases a vendor will have multiple variances. You could take 3 BCM lowers and in theory have one made by LMT, one made by mega, and one made by CMT(I have not clue who really makes the BCM lower, just giving it as an example). Smaller parts get more tricky. A lower parts kit could be made by multiple companies, a bcg as well. I’ve read before builders talking about lower parts kits and how often a part in them can be out of spec.
BCM’s quality comes from a few things. First off the select quality parts from quality suppliers. This mean buying parts made of quality materials(such as the barrel steel) that have been machined well. Second is they inspect them and assemble the rifles to their specs. This means a good quality control to make sure it is done right. This also means testing every rifle or every part in the case of HP/MP testing of say the barrel. Many vendors do not or will test in batches. Third is just a good plan or design. Parts are made to the vendors specs in many cases. This can be something simple like the vendor wanting a full auto bolt carrier or more complex with them saying I want this steel and I want the throat of the barrel done this way. A supplier like CMT might make mil spec parts for vendor x but their rifle has a barrel that has a different twist/steel type.
As an example of this, I bought an LPK a few years ago, and the grip screw had 20 threads per inch instead of the standard 28. I’m lucky I didn’t force it and strip the threads out of my receiver.
The following is a hypothesis. Maybe those involved in machining and manufacturing can confirm or deny.
Lets say machining manufacturing company “X” builds 100 upper receivers. Of these 100 upper receivers, 20 are held within 0.001" tolerance, 60 are held within 0.004" tolerance, and 20 are held within 0.009" tolerance. (I made these numbers up)
Gun company A buys the 20 held within a very tight spec, gun companies B and C buy the 60 that are a decent spec, and gun company D buys the last 20.
Could this account for one manufacturer who provides parts to multiple companies with varying results? As a former employee of a large computer company I know this occurs in the computer assembly business with RAM modules. Does this happen in the manufacturing/machining industry?
