Is anyone building SOPMOD bloc II clones?

Is anyone building a exact Sopmod Bloc II 14.5" upper clone?

I’m sure there’s some examples in the photo thread, just search the site with google looking fro RIS-II and you’ll probably get precisely that, and a few variants that aren’t the exact Blk2.

They are all the time. Some people even build them not knowing they’re building a “clone” configuration. It’s just a good setup. They’re literally a common sight in picture threads and everywhere else.

BCM sells their 14.5 and 16" uppers with the brown RIS-II rail installed.

I don’t know exactly what else makes it “official”, but that seems as good a place to start as any.

BCM Standard 14.5" Mid Length Upper Receiver Group w/ (DARK EARTH) RISII 12" Handguard
BCM Standard 14.5" M4 Upper Receiver Group w/ Daniel Defense (DARK EARTH) RISII FSP 12" Handguard w/ Perm A2X Flash Hider (16.1")

Gun Gallery has been selling factory Noveske SOPMOD Block II style rifles.

I guess I’ll show my ignorance… What is the configuration for the block II carbine?

The SOPMOD Block II configuration is typically identified by the use of the 12" Daniel Defense RIS II railed handguard over a 14.5" M4 or M4 SOCOM profiled barrel. Front sight is often the older style KAC flip up. Muzzle device is typically the KAC QDSS flash hider for the NT4, but I suppose we’ll start seeing the Surefire/BE Meyers (215A) flashhider.

I would go to Smartgunner.com and get a 14.5" DD upper receiver group with the 12" RIS II rail for $695, and then install the flash hider and BUIS separately by yourself.

My build is similar to the BLOCK II with changes to the Stock (UBR VS SOPMOD) and the fact that I am using a MEGA Ambi Billet Lower with Timney trigger instead of a Giessle.

Missing a PEQ15 don’t know where to get one…lol…

Surefire Vampire 952v traded away…need to replace…

and forget Thermal gear…wish I had some…

In a class it can get heavy with the Colt m4 socom barrel (I know)

I am almost done with my clone. I really like the setup. One small gripe is that the grenade launcher mounting tabs rattle around in the DD RIS II. They are difficult to remove because the gas block is right next to the grenade tabs. I’m not going to remove the entire rail because of a little rattle. I wish there were an easy way to secure the rattle.

Also, I couldn’t justify buying the very expensive KAC BUIS so I am using Magpul Gen 2 BUIS.

Get some RTV sealant and give that a try. Use RTV Black. Apply it like you trying to “waterproof” the tabs. Let it dry, go out and shoot.

znztivguy, that’s beautiful!! I like your style.

I’m tempted to go RISII with the AFG. I swayed away from it since I have a KAC trigger guard but… it seems it might work out.

That thing looks stunning, but knowing how much a SOCOM Profiled barrel and a UBR weigh, it’s not something I’ll ever buy again.

Sorry to Necro-Thread but the current logic for me at least on these types of rifles is to go to DD and get a carbine gas with RIS II, 14.5 inch barrel, permed (non NFA for me) FH.

Now before anybody gets all upset for that lack of judgement in making a SOPMOD clone, given the many levels of advice on the internet and from your own favorite instructor, buddy, cube-mate; Ill say this: the SOPMOD program tested and validated, using the most science so far in deciding what belongs on the rifle and what doesnt. I know each operator can do as they choose, but the SOPMOD program is an instant passing grade for me in terms of decision trees on equipment. The gear is proven and it works, no more need for me to search around for a “better answer.” I can just move on and train with the rifle without second-guessing gear choices. Of course, the sopmod program choices work for me, they might not work for you.

Hmmm…except the light and optic, yes, I would agree. There is plenty enough data to show the Insight gear to be “second-guessed.”

One of these days I should get around to posting pics of mine.

Agree on that as well (I go surefire x300/G2x Fury). Optic maybe as well. Original Sopmod was EOTech and Aimpoint and ACOG, no need to second guess those except use the updated versions when applicable.

I know the 553’s with the A.R.M.S. mount are junk -they will slide back and forth on a rail with moderate usage and there is no way to adjust or change the mount. They are heavier than other RDS and the batteries are parallel to the barrel/recoil impulse. But what’s the word on the M3X and M6X? I’ve used both those with pretty good results. Hadn’t really heard of any big issues with those lights.

To the OP - I put this one together after I got a good deal on the rail. Decided to sell it though.
