Interesting Pmag Malfunction

At a recent class, I found one of my Pmags to be seating incorrectly when inserted on an open bolt. The ‘block’ on the mag (or whatever it’s really called) just below the recess for the mag catch that stops the mag from seating higher has been either worn down or sheared off. I looked at all my other mags and found several others with the same appearance, although they seemed to run fine. Here’s a pic:

As you can see that angle can case the mag to seat too far up. Curious to know if anyone else has seen this with their Pmags…trying to see where the issue is coming from, either the mags just being old or perhaps a bad mag catch or something that is wearing down that area prematurely.

Try tightening your mag catch and see if that resolves the issue.

I believe this is caused by repeated aggressive "TAP"ing on the bottom of the mag to seat it.

There was a thread on here somewhere about PMAG failures in classes from this.

I don’t think so. The bottom of the mag catch slot would be chewed up.

I have a mag that has this damage from dropping my rifle when crossing a dry creek bed. The gun fell right on the mag base. The bottom of the notch is where the damage was.

Maybe it’s from hitting the deck while going prone, sometimes the mag hits hard…
