so, i was browsing the net for info on radar cross section test facilities, and found quite a fascinating website that included RCS range information, and a whole lot more:

The radar range stuff is interesting. There are actually a number of former radar range sites around the country in conditions. They don’t have the mystique of the NTS, but are nonetheless pretty cool if you’re into that sort of thing.
Ah ha, I have always wondered what those strips of pavement were. I have seen a lot of them flying overhead, especially on the arrival into LA area airports such as Van Nuys, Santa Monica, Burbank, etc… Thank you for the link, now I know what they are. I have often though they could be used for a quick dead stick landing if I ever had the need…:fie:
it may seem like common sense, but one thing that’s been further emphasized in my mind after reading some of his articles is that if you plan to go exploring in the desert alone, you need to bring enough food and supplies to walk out (besides GPS, map etc) if your vehicle gets stuck. as much as i love the desert, it’s good to be reminded of how quickly a sightseeing/camping trip off the beaten path can turn deadly.
i spent a bit of time on google earth the other night and there’s some weird/interesting stuff out there in the middle of nowhere.
