Interesting debate on Piers Morgan tonight

he finally chose to have a rational, calm, well-spoken guest on and he got verbally bitch slapped.

The only wrong thing from my pov is that he was speaking too fast, showing signs of desperation. BUT at the same time, that kid was very knowledgeable and polite.

Yeah. Lots of stuttering. He “schooled” Morgan on transcript, though.

I read it more as an attempt to get out all his thoughts before he was interrupted. Piers and others tend to talk over guests and interrupt when they’re backed into a corner. I thought Ben did a pretty good job of avoiding the “shouting match” that typically ensues.

Yeah. Morgan is such a disgrace that he told Shapiro, here you come with your little book (in a sarcastic way) and took the Constitution Book and slammed to the side of the desk.

Morgan got owned plain and simple. Shapiro rocked. Excellent job advocating for the 2A. Less Alex jones (none) and more Shapiro.

Here here!

Great illustration of the 12,000,000 illegal immigrants in this country and how we can’t solve that issue. Yet some expect to regulate the 300,000,000+ firearms.

WATCHING PIERS MORGAN FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME BOILS MY FUCKING BLOOD. Still, I sat through it and enjoyed the other side of the debate.

And don’t forget that the funding use for CBP for the immigrants exceeded the whole FBI funding in the whole nation.

Shapiro nailed it! Why ban “Assault Rifles” when most firearm murders are committed with handguns? Because they want all our guns! How do people not see this plainly visible truth?

Piers, you are 47 years old and a 28 year old kid own the shit out of you on your own program. And btw read this:

Benjamin Aaron “Ben” Shapiro is an American conservative political commentator, radio talk show host, attorney, and media consultant. A native of Los Angeles, Shapiro graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles and Harvard Law School.

Suck it baby.

“Ahh” excuse me, but Mr Shapiro, he advocated for the so-called “gunshow loophole” to be closed! Thats not my idea of advocating for the 2nd amendment!

In fact, nics background checks, had no capacity to intervene in any of the last half dozen or so slaughters, at all. How would capitulating to the government, by allowing them to mandate a nics check, along with the services of a government agent in all firearms transactions make any difference?

It wouldn’t, it only brings you that much closer to NO!!!

The treasure they are looking for here, is the private transaction, it has nothing to do with what happened at Sandy Hook, Aurora, or anywhere else for that matter. It has to do with infringement…

Mr Shapiro, well he doesn’t represent my position, at all!

When lawyers are on your side, they’re awesome. When they’re against you, they’re stupid and should all be tortured until dead. I see this time and again everywhere I go, especially here. :stuck_out_tongue:

Remember this guy the next time you (I don’t mean you specifically, but anyone reading this) lump all lawyers together as ambulance chasers who only want to practice law for the money and don’t give a shit about people.

A few bad apples gives all lawyers a bad name, much like mass shooters give all gun owners a bad name.

On topic, I liked this guy. Pretty much agree with everything, even gun show loop hole closing. Unlike many laws, that might actually accomplish something good and won’t restrict law abiding citizens from buying firearms. NICS checks don’t equate to registration.

Spot on! They use words like “unlicensed dealer” or “gunshow loophole” so what they are really advocating is that the GOV can dictate to you what you can and cannot sell even though it is your property. Federal law spells out already when a person can/ cannot transfer a firearm. Who’s fault is it that they wrote yet another poorly worded and crappy law? Us or the idiots that wrote it?

Edit.

Perhaps Morgan allowed him to talk without completely talking over him because Shapiro supports banning private sales?

There is no reason whatsoever we should feel we have to “throw them a bone,” such as one more damn gun law/restriction.

Good to make solid points but for God’s sake please quit appeasing the bastards. There are 22,000 gun laws across the country, not one law is preventing murderers from killing, and one more law will not be effectual in increasing safety, it may even decrease safety and further chips away at our exercising of our right without going to jail.

Flame suit on but I think a person who wants to sell privately should be able to call a number just like an FFL does and do an instant background check. I am not for keeping records for registration. But personally I won’t sell a gun to anyone I don’t know unless its through a dealer. Frankly there are lots of shady people out there. I don’t see it as infriging on my rights to own weapons in any way either.
Pat

I have to agree. I am certainly against any type of registration, but I don’t think I could sell an FFL-covered item to a person unknown to me. I heard a story last night that, while possibly just anecdotal, seems perfectly feasible.

This person (the one telling the story) bought a Bushmaster AR at a recent local gun show, paying about $1500 for what used to be a $900-$1000 rifle. (I’m not sure if it was post-election or post-Sandy Hook, but it was just after one of the two.) While walking out to his car, a man approached him and offered to buy the rifle from him for $2000. While the temptation was there to make an extra $500, go back in and buy another one, he simply said ‘dude, go inside to such-n-such booth, you can get one just like it for $1500.’ He said the guy basically blew off the idea and continued roaming the parking lot. He went back to the gun show the next day, and was telling the dealer he bought his BM from about the previous day’s encounter. The dealer told him that it was very common for convicted felons to do that at gun shows, since they cannot legally buy a firearm from an FFL dealer but can buy through a private sale with no NICS check.

I don’t know the guy well enough to say his story is 100% true without question, but I think it’s hard to deny that sort of thing happens when it comes to private sales, be they at a gun show or through some other means of connection, such as craigslist, online forums, printed classifieds, etc.

That fellow ignored a lot of the basic assumptions and loaded words Piers used in order to argue the bigger point and he did that fairly well. I would not have allowed Piers to get away with “assault weapons” and some of the other media jargon, or agreed to any of the proposals he made, but that would have derailed the conversation before it ever got going and the larger points would not have been made. So kudos to him for even being willing to step into their slanted arena and play by their rules and STILL come away with a win.

Completely agree Pat. I’ve done the private route in the past (via Armslist or the like) and have declined a number of shady dudes that put off the wrong vibe. In OH, all a buyer has to present is a valid state ID. After years of bouncing/bar-tending I learned there’s some damn good fakes out there that are cheap and easy to come by.

ETA: I also see how conceding at all is a worry, as we could be at the top of a slippery slope and all that.
