Interchanging Suppressors?

I was just wondering, theory only I wouldn’t nor even could I do this.

What would be the effect of using my 9mm silencer on a 22LR pistol?

I couldn’t do it because my 9mm has 13.5 metric threads and my 22LR has 1/2 x 28 threads. But, if the threads were the same would the 9mm suppressor have any silencing effect? Some silencing effect but not much? I assume the 22LR bullet would pass through the can without any problems.

Again, no intent on doing this, just discussion.

You can do it, it’ll definitely suppress it. The extra volume of the 9mm can may make up for most of the lack of efficiency caused by the larger bore.

Of course, .22 is very dirty and over time you’ll fill up your 9mm can. It’s not worth it in the long run unless your 9mm can opens for cleaning.

Yep pretty much what I am finding as well when I asked around about a 5.56 Can on a .22.

Although I asked Mike M. when I called AAC about my shipping date. And he told me that a bit of rapid fire through the can from the proper caliber would burn any residue out.

Is there any truth to that?

on a 5.56 can, yes. to a point.

the OP asked about a 9mm, and I doubt the pressure is high enough to blast anything much out.

Understood. Sorry to confuse the issue.

You can get 5.56 cans that come apart for cleaning.
