I finally managed to track down a CZ Scorpion last week. After one range trip I caught the SBR bug everyone else has been talking about. This thing just begs for a stock. I would like to avoid SBR’ing the gun if possible because I travel across state lines to shoot often and am not fond of engraving my name on guns. I was wondering if a viable alternative to the SBR route would be to pin a can. Ideally I would like the can to be user serviceable and long enough to bring the barrel length up to 16 inches. The concept I’m looking for is pretty much identical to Sig’s initial rendition of the MPX-C. I am admittedly a suppressor novice and this would be my first can. So far I have not been able to find a suppressor that meets the length requirements that is easily pinnable and user serviceable. I was thinking something similar to the Liberty Mystic X or the Thompson SG-2 however I do not know enough about how those cans break down to know if they would work for what I’m trying to do.
That is 100% correct. You could do a muzzle extension amd a stock. Maybe a vented shroud affixed similar to the tactical solutions 10/22 barrel that would allow you to attach and remove the can.
Yea, I thought about the barrel extension idea (I think Manticore is going to be making one) but I hate the look of faux suppressor extensions. My thought is if I am going to have that much material sticking out in front of the gun permanently, I might as well make it do something.
I know the gun will still be an NFA item, which isn’t that big of a deal guess. I was under the impression that suppressors weren’t under as much scrutiny as SBR’s when traveling. Am I wrong in my assumption that the suppressor is still the only part NFA really applies to; or does permanently attaching a can make the gun an AOW? But like I said this would be my first NFA item and the whole process is fairly new to me. That being said, I am more or less just trying to find out if the idea is doable with anything currently on the market.
The weapon would not be an AOW unless you install a forward vertical grip. Just putting a suppressor on a pistol does not make it an AOW. The Suppressor can be taken interstate without notifying ATF.
Right, what I am more or less trying to do is bring the barrel length up to 16 inches by pinning a can (if i can find one that will work). Throw in the correct 922r compliant parts and I should have a pretty fun little 9mm I can put a stock on.
