Insurance question

For insurance purposes is a colt oem 1 always going to be a colt oem 1 even if it is completed as a le6920? Until you go through a natural disaster where everything has to be line item inventoried you never play this mental game.

Maybe you’d be better off asking your specific insurance company about how detailed they want the inventory. After all, they’ll be the ones paying out.
If they don’t give you a clarification, I’d go by what is roll marked on the side of the gun.

Once junk always junk. A 6920 is no more worthy of insuring than the oem whatever is. Why would you bother??

Unfortunately I’m going to be laughing for at least another day…

I am with Farm Bureau and I gave them a spread sheet with what I wanted insured. I listed optics, accessories, etc and then gave them a replacement price. The most I have is a hundred dollar deductible. It is a separate policy from my homeowners and it cost me $7.00 per $1,000.00 of insurance annually.

The insurance company will look at the depreciated replacement cost to make things right after loss occurs. No matter how the rifle is configured, if my policy will cover it, replacement should occur. I suppose that I answered my own question while considering stripped lowers. If a cop were to run a serial number trace, stripped lower for an AR15 type rifle is all that will come back. But from an insurance perspective, the serial number is irrelevant as the finished product with the sum of all the parts is what is covered.

Sounds like you got it figured then. Good luck.

Many insurance companies need an appraisal of your collection, and an added rider for items of higher value (jewellery, furs, firearms)

I only had 2 that needed appraisals, and I took it and they told me what it was worth, I laughed and gave them the parts and accesories and they added them. NightForces, Giesselles, and Aimpoints added what I wanted!
