Installed Geissele G2S without instructions - oops?

OK, so the other day I put together a lower with a Geissele G2S trigger that I had picked up from G and R. After getting it all put together, I function tested it thoroughly and am in love with it.

Now here’s my problem. After getting it all together, I noticed that there was an extra little round spring-like clip in the bag that I didn’t see when putting the trigger in. After doing a little research, I learned that this part is the hammer pin retainer. I’d never seen such a device and since there were no instructions included, I kinda winged the installation.

So… my question is, and forgive my ignorance - how important is this hammer pin retainer? The trigger seems to function flawlessly and I notice no pins walking or the such. I don’t like to leave out parts that were obviously engineered for extra reliability - but I need to know if it’s absolutely necessary. The trigger functions great and I’d rather not take it all down to put it in if it’s not needed, but somehow I feel that it is.

Could someone help? Like I said, I’ve only installed standard triggers that don’t have such a device… I wish detailed instructions were included…

FYI a bit of “google-fu” on your part would have saved you some anxiety.

Yes I know… Normally my Google-Fu is good, but like I said, I didn’t even notice the extra part until after I had completed the lower… So I’m guessing it’s a necessary part then… I mean… the trigger functions and feels great, I just don’t want it to fail at an inopportune moment…

Very important. Installation instructions are on their website.

Is this just for the G2S, or something new for all of their triggers?

G2S

Thanks Grant… answered my question… Looks like it’s time to get to work!!! If you don’t mind me asking and if you have the time to answer - do you know why it’s so important if it seems to function fine without it? Will my hammer pin pop out? Also, maybe you should consider including a photocopy of the instructions and including it with the trigger so that dummies like me that think they know what they’re doing won’t make the same mistake.

Hammer pin walks out.

Ahhhh that’s what I figured… Thanks for the info… Busting out the tools and towel now…

DISASTER! I just checked the little bag that I thought I put the piece in and it’s missing! I’ve just spent the last 10 minutes crawling around on the floor with a flashlight looking for it - Grant - do you have any replacements or know where I can find one?

I’ve got a Geissele DMR trigger that walks, it is enough of a pain where I don’t bother using that lower. To the OP, drop that piece in and save yourself the headache.

I would if I could find it! I may have to modify a tiny split ring or something if I can’t get a replacement…

I’m sure Geissele will send you a replacement. Their customer service is excellent.

The reason the G2S triggers are cheaper is because they speed up the machining process by not machining the J hook slot in the hammer. They add that little spring to take the place of the J hook. Yes, If you don’t use that part, the hammer pin will walk out. I believe this is why Geissele made this trigger a OEM part only initially.

OP, I MAY have a few of these lying around. I can check tomorrow.

Thanks guys… I just took a closer look and sure enough the pin is already starting to walk… UGH…

I know it as the “J” spring, absolutely needed. Your hammer pin will walk.

LOL, we might.

Have you ever measured the pin hole in that lower? Might be .155 (or larger).

Check your shirt and pants pockets… there and my shop apron pockets is usually where all my missing parts end up.

Failing that… get a good strong refrigerator magnet and start “trolling” your floor… especially the base boards.

Lost one of those long skinny rail nuts for a Troy alpha last night. Frig magnet came to the rescue and I fished it out of a crack in the floor.

We’re currently in the process of rearranging the entire house to clear out a room to turn into my daughter’s study - my tools are buried under a huge pile of crap so I have no idea - it’s an Aero Precision lower.

About my only choice right now besides possibly waiting for a replacement from Grant or Geissele… once I can get to my tools, I’ll do just that. I had the unfortunate experience of launching my buffer detent across the room for the first time the other day. Took me more time to find it than the entire rest of the lower build combined.
