I like the idea of having some muzzle device, probably a FH, what do I need to know.
Thanks

You can get a tap & die set but I’d would just send it to a reputable AK smith and have them thread your barrel, it’s not like you are going to be threading barrels too often. Is your VEPR a Rob Arms? If so I’d check with them as they may still service them.
Using a TAT and a die is strait forward as long as the OD of the barrel is the correct diameter for whatever thread pattern you want.
That is a hack though. A short cut.

No AK barrels I’ve seen have their OD concentric with the bore. The above pictured vepr included.
Pressing out the barrel, stripping it, just to put it on the lathe seems like over kill.
What you get from that is being turn down the OD so that it is much closer to being concentric to the bore. You can also re-crown the muzzle face so it too is much closer to being perpendicular to the bore.
Now if the OD of the barrel is larger than what the thread pattern you chooses calls for then your choices dramatically diminish. Either lathe or use Dinzag’s muzzle cutter + TAT + die etc.
I’ve done AK barrels both ways. The barrels I did the hack on I look at and say “Wish I had done it on a lathe.”
I have a mak 90 I want chopped, threaded and pinned. Any suggestions for reputable smith’s to send it to?

They do get a lot of orders. On the bright side they stay busy for a reason ![]()
RD does have a list of shops they have trained and/or deemed worthy. I don’t know where that list is. They started it shortly after doing their AK builder class.
Mr.Blasty get ahold of Joe at Superior Firearms. Mr Smith on here. he can do what you want to do to your MAK and do it well.
I’ll send him a message when I’m ready to do it then. Anybody know anything about these guy’s?

It is not Rob Arms, just a regular vepr I converted and got the ronin furniture on.
Thanks for the info regarding the lathe, how much does that run?
