In the theme of our excellent door reinforcement thread I’d like to continue along that line of thought to: Door Locks.
My situation: I am moving toward closing on my first house. As such I need to get at a minimum of three new deadbolts, and hopefully three new lock cores for the existing knobs. Sure I’d love to replace the doors & frames in their entirety but that can’t happen just yet. (but IT WILL happen!) So I will content myself w/ buying some good locks. My philosophy going in is: buy quality, cry once :cray:, and just move them on to the new doors when I can afford to get them and have them installed.
Finally my question: Can anybody recommend a good and reputable online vendor for high-end locks? While I absolutely NEED 3+3 I will probably end up buying more like 5-6 + about 10 key sets preferably with keyed alike locks. I figure that when it’s all said and done I’ll be about 1k deep in door locks. Please don’t tell my wife!
However, just because you cannot afford a door/frame upgrade right now, you NEED to do some reinforcing of the frame itself. Do yourself a favor and pick up a Door Devil for each door. They’re cheap and easy insurance to help prevent a kick-in.
Oh, and buy a box of 3’’ screws while you’re there. The screws that hold most exterior door hinges to the frame are only a half inch and can be another potential weakpoint.
