inexpensive rails covers/ladders? UPDATE & Pics

I have a MI FF rail coming. I need rail covers/ladders.

I sank good money into a quality AR (Colt 6920) and a quality optic (EOTech 553). Is there a place to get tan rail Covers/ladders that won’t run $12 each. can’t stomach spending $40-$50 on rail covers. I lost my Job a few months back and now am making MUCH less for the time being. Thus I went with MI for my FF rail (good and less than DD). Now trying to find a cost effective way to protect the rails and my hand.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
A. Rojas

Not sure about tan, but you can get a pack of 3 of the Surefire ladder covers in black from G&R Tactical for $15. Much less expensive than the others and I like them so far. Hope that helps.

that is probably the best deal going.

the ergo/magpul version are 11+ bucks a pop.

The Surefires are the best bargin out there. But they don not come in anything but black. Some companies like UTG and airsoft makers make cheapies but I would worry about them melting.

To add Magpul is going to be coming out with their MOE’s in the near future and the price is really good on a good piece of gear on those in your choice of colors. If you can wait I will sell you my used FDE Magpuls when the MOE’s are released:D

i have some UTG rail covers. they are cheap. they do not melt, but they are uglier than sin and are anything but slim.

if you can deal with the hideous looks and thick profile they are cheapest rail protectors you can buy.

Any idea when this might be? I may be interested.

magpul hasnt quoted a release date on the MOE line of accessories.

You would likely be interested in the XTM Panels. We haven’t set a hard release date, but let me do some digging tomorrow and see if we have any of the first run left over to sell. They come in packs of 8 interlocking pieces (two halves join together) - this will cover one side of a carbine rail. MSRP is $7.95 per 8-pack.

I thought they were called Moes but I guess they are the XTM’s. They have stuff coming out now that they are working on o it might be alittle while.

Correct. We do have MOE plastic handguards in the works, but the rail covers are called XTM Panels.

My stupid new PC wont let me open larges docs like the new Magpul catalog without becoming Fubar and I got them confused. Im going to have to get my Magpul-fu stronger on the new stuff or I will be ordering the wrong items.

i am patiently waiting for FDE XTPs and OD MOE handguards…

I am looking at your online catalog and I don’t see a picture of what you’re talking about. Do you have a photo or something? I also need some rail covers, and would prefer a Magpul quality cover but don’t want to spend $50 for 3. I’m not following you on the quote above, is it that 8 pieces cover one rail if all locked together, and you’d need 3 packs at $7.95 each to cover 3 sides?

Thanks

The only photo on the rail accessories page is of the XTM panels: http://magpul.com/images/home/home_product3.jpg

On a gun (thanks to Stickman):

I picked up some inexpensive rail ladders from ebay. Those should tide me over for now.

Any real difference between the various rail covers. Anyone I should consider over the others. I’m sure I won’t be able to hold off for two long. Who would of thought that BRD would extend to accessories.

Ladder and or rail covers are not all created equal. The SF ladders at $15 for three are the best I have found. They have a tacky feel and sit low in the rail.

The surefire ladders are very nice. They have a nice plush feel and add almost zero in terms of weight and bulk

Daniel Defense sells Ladders and Panels for $26 for 3.

RainierArms has Mako’s for $20/3 as well.
