Inexpensive Lower Vise Block

When I started looking for a lower vise block, my first stop was Brownells. Wow, their pricing was a bit much for me.

What I wanted was a reasonably priced machined block, preferably made out of the same material as my D.P.M.S. Panther Claw Upper Receiver Vise Block. A smooth high density white polymer.

After looking around I came across the Squirrel Daddy lower vise block, which looked to meet all my needs.
Needless to say I ordered one at the grand price of $9.99 with free shipping.

The block I received worked as advertised. It is a machined product and works well. There is a vertical groove that provides clearance for where the bolt catch protrudes into the top of the magazine well. There are magazine catch slots on both sides allowing you to put the block in from the top or bottom of the mag well.

It fits the magazine well with a slight bit of clearance and no binding.

It is made from a hard white polymer and appears to be the same material as my D.P.M.S. Panther Claw.

Here is a link to the product.

Just to be clear, I am in no way affiliated with Squirrel Daddy and I was not given this product to review.

It’s well made and for what it costs, it’s not worth messing around with a magazine and some filler.

You can never have enough tools. That looks like a nice block for the money. Please let us know how it holds up after a few uses.

I’ve been looking for a lower block as well.

When I looked, it was on sale for $5.99 with free shipping

That’s great.

When I checked out the Squirrel Daddy site I saw that the block I had ordered was on sale.

They have a revised block with a longer magazine stop section. Aside from that it’s the same block, although it costs more.

I’m glad to have helped.

I have heard a lot of good things about Squirrel Daddy products. If I don’t buy the BEV block, I am planning on one of them.

I’ve used their .308 magwell block a bunch and am happy with it.

Just another option for you. This place has free shipping as well, but it’s not quite as low as the $5.99 that you found. I’ve purchased from them and the product is nice.

Those plastixrevolution blocks look nice.

I’m slowly starting to accumulate all the goodies for home builds, so this thread popped up at a perfect time.

Picking up a small vise from the local HF store, the last couple builds I did by using my buddy’s stuff, and being reliant on someone else is getting annoying.

Thanks for the review, I’ll be eyeballing those blocks for next week’s “fun $20”

While double checking what lower vise blocks were available, I came across the plastixrevolution blocks. They look similar to the Squirrel Daddy ones. There pricing is good too. When I purchased my Squirrel Daddy block, I don’t remember plastixrevoution being on the market.

Since I haven’t had the chance to try one out, I can’t make any informed comments.
