Looking to get my 1st Ar type rifle.
My local shop quoted me $900 on a new Bushmaster M4 type A2 model
Another NJ shop has a Stag Arms 2RH for $800
I’m looking to buy a complete rifle. I don’t have the patience to build one right now w/everything else going on in my life.
My budget was originally $700, but apparently that’s not possible for anything decent. I upped it to $800, but of the BM for $900 is that good then I’d be willing to spend the extra $100, but no higher!
However, I’d like to keep it as cheap as possible without buying junk.
Whatever I buy must be POST-BAN
Feel free to help me out
I would get an ADS from Grant.
For what you are looking to spend you will likely want the LMT. You can contact a member here (Grant) that can you one for $900 or so, but I think you have to buy the upper and lower seperate. This is nothing to take issue with, as you just put A and B together. The best you will find for the money, and almost the best you can get.

I contacted Grant yesterday actually & he said he does not have post-ban models.
Go to PKFirearms and buy a post ban upper of your choice (w/out BCG)
http://www.pkfirearms.com/store/get_items.aspx?type=0&term=123
The Bushmaster barreled A2 would run you $390 w/out the bolt carrier group. I’d recommend a flat top, but that’s your decision.
Get a complete lower locally, or if not locally, find one online. They’ll run anywhere from $230 or so for a DPMS (PK has those also, but shop around) on up. You can get a quality complete lower from Stag or RRA for less than $300 for sure. I’d recommend a Stag just because they seem to be well made and have a mil spec extension tube.
Snap the two pieces together and you’re done, for around $700. Add an LMT BCG from Bravo Company or Global Tactical, etc, for $130, and you’re under $900.
There are lots of options. You are limited, however, because of the post-ban thing so most top tiered guns (LMT, Colt) probably are not going to be doable. The Stag Arms you can get locally for $800 you talked about actually doesn’t sound too bad, if you want a complete Stag. Good luck.
Ditto…
Should run around $900 and will be G2G out of the box. A top shelf AR.
My next choice in that price range would be a S&W, if the $100 rebate is still in play it’s a great deal on a good rifle.
:o
Looking to buy complete post-ban rifle only.
Have you looked at Noveske?
The Charles Daley looks promising:D .
You said POST-ban, sorry.:o
I guess if it’s post ban only…
I would go with the Stag. I would probably add the BCM extractor upgrade kit, and definitely re stake the carrier key.
good luck,
Mike
LMT, ADS are good AR’s to start with. Grant has them both.
Once again, Grant told me he does NOT have any post-ban ARs.
If it was me, I’d just move to a non-Democrat run state and then buy whatever I want.
That is taking some time to set in, isn’t it.
I did not read the initial post as thoroughly as I should have either.
Anyway, living in N.J., I know the dilemma. If you could find a Colt 6400 I’d say go with that, but it is a bit more expensive and, again, extremely hard to find nowadays.
That would lead me to suggest a Bushmaster M4 Izzy post-ban model. I have a similar Bushmaster that has been perfect after thousands of 5.56 rounds, not a single issue ever. I would take another, based on my personal experience, in a moment. If you want the A3, it should not be too hard to find somewhere, but that may not be an issue for you.
Hey,
NYer here…
I had the fine folks at SAW neuter a Colt 6920 upper for me. Couldn’t get any kind of Colt lower from them 'cause they had nothing but post ban stuff.
The search for a decent Colt lower gave me such a headache that I finall did what I should have from the start:
I turned to the legendary Grant at G&R Tactical and he ordered an LMT lower with a fixed stock for me.
Half Colt, half LMT, all groovy.
