I don’t recall it ever making any of the local theaters but it just got released on DVD February 19, 2013 and Netflix does have it.
I of course love it but I’m baffled at what they are thinking. They are doing a trilogy years apart as if it has the same following as the original Star Wars. They aren’t even using the same actors for any of the characters which makes it even more confusing, especially considering Part I and Part II are only one year apart.
They have a 2014 release date for the Part III film but IMDb doesn’t even indicate who is starring in it so probably a new crop of actors and another film that nobody see’s in the theater.
The only good thing about this is that Part I and Part II are both only $9.99 on Amazon and you could waste your money on much worse films.
Yeah, but people who would never read the book (which is a chore to get through) do get exposed to some of the ideas in it. The point is that what was pretty far out stuff in the 1950s is now the nightly news.
God knows that public schools and the MSM have been pushing their views nonstop for lo, these many years now.
Maybe people will start connecting the dots one of these days.
Game of Thrones gets made with high production value, but one of the best selling novels of the past 100 years gets the movie of the week treatment.
I would have rather they did it as a TV mini series, it would get a wider audience. We wait all these years and this is the movie we’ve been waiting for?
When does the copyright for the book end so that someone can make a good version with out having to appease the people that are responsible for this mess?
I don’t think anyone is trying to make it fail. Both parts were produced on a shoestring budget from what I remember. Part 2 had a bigger budget than part 1. I think they went with multiple releases due to $$ issues and also editing issues. You can’t make Atlas Shrugged into a 2.5 hr movie and do it justice. There is also not going to be any mainstream funding for the production. Too many similarities to today’s issues don’t you know
I don’t think they are trying to make it fail…it’s just not as well done as it could be. A mini series would be more appropriate and would avoid trying to shoehorn that story into ~4.5 hours.
I remember the Amerika series from 1987. Really powerful stuff in there some places but because it didn’t have any “Red Dawn” action people fell asleep watching it. Thankfully the same people also fell asleep watching “Reds”
This movie looked like exactly what it is, a pet project of somebody with limited resources and support who “hoped” getting it made might wake some of those “sleepers” up. But the ideas of Rand simply don’t have the mass appeal that Game of Thrones has.
I wish to god that HBO had been involved in making this series. It could have been epic. I just don’t believe anyone is willing to risk the funds to do anymore than what we are seeing.
I also don’t see any appeasement in the film. It’s not like they are betraying story lines and themes to make it more commercial.
