Purpose will be everyday and shooting. I like having the ballistic rating on the lens, for just in case. I had some Wiley but lost them and been using my mountain bike glasses that are scratched all to hell and back. They are held with superglue at this moment.
I like/ prefer glasses that go slightly above my eye brown line but with out the m-frame look. Reason I like my glasses this way is when I’m on the rifle, there less obstruction that way.
Been looking at Smith Optics Hideout and Hudson.
Get another pair of Wileys. I like their wraparound style.
I’ve been running Oakley Radars on the range with both the gray and clear lenses. I run the smallest of the 3 lens sizes, I think they are called the Radar Path.
I also have a set of ESS Ice in gray and clear. They work and I give them to people I take shooting that don’t have their own eye-pro.

Smith Elite. I just got their Director Tactical and love them. I’ve been using their eye pro for a few years - its awesome.
I’m loving the crap out of my Oakley Fuel Cells. They definitely go over the eyebrow easily, giving fantastic coverage and they have he same ANSI rating as shooting glasses. They actually have a much better peripheral view than you would expect given their styling. I got mine from US Standard Issue where if you’re LE, MIL or retired MIL you can get a pretty nice discount on select models. (There may be other first responder discounts there but honestly I’m drunk posting and can’t remember for sure.)
The one warning I would give about Oakleys is that you should definitely try them on at a store before ordering. I originally bought the Gascans and my face was way too wide for them to the point that the lense would pop out when I put them on. For reference I wear a S/M flex fit hat so I was pretty surprised. They were great about taking them back but it was a long process.
Oakley! M-Frames with the sweeps. I am contemplating getting a pair of their ballistic crosshairs.
I have a pair of Bolle breakaway that are ansi rated, anti smudge, anti fog, and polarized. I’d recommend them.
Fuel cell all the way. I use them for everyday and range. They don’t look tacticool and come in an assortment of colors. They even come from oakley with cerakote.
I have a thing about spending that much for Oakleys and WileyX. I can get z-rated glasses in great styles for under $10; full disclosure, this place is run by a pal of mine. He’s a former Marine and at one time he was the biggest distributor of one or both of the above brands in the US. Dunno how his prices are on those brands. I’m lucky to live nearby so I can just walk in and shop.
The latest z-rating also carries an optical clarity requirement. I don’t know about all that but I can go in there and for the cost of one sat-on set of Oakleys, get two years’ worth of sunglasses. Scratched? New pair. Lost? No heartbreak.

I paid $180 for my oakley fuel cells with polarized lenses. I’ve had them for over two and a half years and are still scratch free. By your logic, two years worth of glasses would have cost me $240. I’ve had inexpensive glasses before and your right, if they scratch just get a new pair. With my “expensive” glasses I take really good care of them. My $10 glasses, ehhh…throw’em away. I’ve spent more money that way so if it works for you then cool.
I just bought Rudy Project Rydon Flex’s. 3 sets of lenses. They came out with a new lens Impact X2. The transition (dark to light) is amazing. I can wear these indoor and go outdoor without taking them off. I also bought transition polarized. They don’t get as light as the non polarized so these I wouldn’t wear indoor. Those are also the first gen Impact X. I have a pair of old school wire temple yellow lens so I bought a pair of yellow lenses also. Not sure I am going to keep these as the first rose set I mentioned Impact X2’s will fill that bill. The nose piece and temples are fully adjustable and they do Rx. You can find discount codes on the net up to 50% off so don’t be turned off by the prices. I have been a Maui Jim guy for years for sunglasses not shooting glasses and I have put them in the drawer I like these so much.
I bought a pair from this company on Amazon last year and got a screaming good deal! Admittedly, they’re not the most stylish but I completely trust my eyes to the durability of the lenses.
I have several pair of Oakleys and several pair of Smith Optics. Both are very good but I think I like the Smiths a bit better.
I like Oakley and Rudy Project.
I have used Oakley, Costa. and Wiley, and depending on the deal would buy any of them again, however in my experience the polarized finished wears of the Oakley’s faster than the rest. The way I understand it, they use a polarized film, and the others use a polarized lens between 2 others. Oakley did make good. Oakley has a program for Mil/LEO… at a discount price. US Standard Issue. If they were all the same price Oakley would be my last choice.
