Put the stock on the tube. Place it against your hip or have a friend hold it. Tighten castle nut.

I find that when the backing plate fits in the groove of the RE with almost no play, I have no trouble with canting.

The more play, the greater chance of canting and the greater the chance of damaging the threads.

I ran into this exact problem with PWS ratchet locking castle nut and end plate. Their end plates were horrible and barely engaged the slot in the tube. I hadn’t encountered anything like that before. I did manage shave off the threads on the A5 tube before I switched back to the tried and true.
