Illegal ivory

According to recent news, the U.S. Navy will destroy 6 tons of illegal ivory. I think that dumping it on the market would increase supply, lower price, and decrease demand thereby reducing poaching. Good or bad idea?

I honestly doubt it stop anything.

And since its relevant. We suck as a species.

One would think that with all the drone tech we have we could actually do something positive with it, but no.

It seems a horrible waste which is at least somewhat self defeating. We don’t want certain animals to die, so then the answer is to make sure that they died for absolutely nothing?

As I believe it has been said in the past, and if not, “Dear friend, you are trying to use logic in a decidedly illogical world.”

That said, if they did sell it on the open market then I am sure there would be a huge outcry since the tree huggers are usually in my experience more militant than what CNN likes to depict your average gun owner as.

should distribute it to zoos and put it in a empty cage and say this is all thats left !

That would be a really over the top awesome prank to pull on a newbie cage cleaner and/or veterinarian.

Maybe they could tie the folks that poached the ivory to the bundle before they dump it in open water? I’d support that.
