I'll take mine black...

I see alot of people doing the color scheme thing on their AR’s. Many of my preferences have changed as far as ARs go, but the one thing that has remained constant is the essence of the “Black Rifle”.
Oh, and add the sugar, I like em sweet!

It’s all preferance, that being said black doesn’t blend well a multiple color rifle or even gear blends. But it depends on what you do with it, kill paper that doesn’t shot back, safe queen doesn’t matter.

its been realized that black is a terrible color for camoflage… even at night, green brown and tan blend in better.

i’m sure a lot of it is style points, naturally, but that’s how it started. i’m with you- i love the sleek, clean look of an all-black gun. but out of my current 5, none are all black.

Except the Lancer mag isn’t…black.

unless you’re an operator of some kind or varmint sniper, there is no need to paint your rifle. truth is that 95% of the civilian AR owners are paper punchers. does not matter if you shoot 10 rounds per month or 10,000. now some look very cool painted up, but i could never bring myself to do such a thing.

who’s talking about need?

but if we are talking about need, you do realize that a LOT of people, especially around here, keep themselves in a general state of combat readines, in the event of invasion, terrorist attack, civil war, rebel uprisings, or even just roving packs of looters/rapists/murders during a state of panic… right? you can call that paranoid, and i can call you paranoid for wearing a seatbelt.

why not? it’s fun and functional

Basic black is always classy. Though I’ll still end up painting mine at some point.

Really liking those MOE handguards on rifles not running rails.

My two “go to” carbines are black. I can’t really get worked up over colors.

I’ve got a lot of black guns, I am no longer ignorant enough to presume that black is good “camo” for anything – including night time movement.

A light tan color or a lighter gray is actually ideal for blending in.

Only one of my rifles is tan with foliage and green accent and it blends in nicely:

The optic on my rifle is duracoat in the old Dark Earth, and you can see how dark it is. The MIAD grip is foliage but covered over lightly in khaki krylon, it still sticks out. The camo my friend and I are wearing is actually much lighter than it looks in the photo, his is more indicative of what mine looks like too – I think the photo has an odd exposure.

Hear, hear!

nope… you’re definately not Terrell.

I’d like to paint my “Oh Shit” gun, but I don’t have the heart to do it.

That, and I guarantee the paintjob would be hosed.

a shitty paint job is the best paint job… just nondescript shifts and blobs of color natural to your environment.

Example:

TheJanitor has put together the most awesome, amazing, arousing paint-scheme I’ve ever seen. Seriously.

I remember when you posted the pictures of that hunt a few years back.

Very nice antelopes. That’s a tough beast to bring home.

That thing belongs in some sci-fi movie, in the hands of a snake eater.

He did that one just right, awesome paint job!

now that’s cool!

yea…it’s paranoid. how do know i wear a seatbelt?

Which carbine is harder to see?

Obviously you can see both, but the painted tube does blend pretty well.

I couldn’t really care less about the camo aspect. I have colored rifles (and even then it’s only the plastic) so that they stand out from one another, and I have rationale for the color schemes in my own head (grey are “toys”, green are something else, black are something else, etc.)

I also like the tan furniture, and tan nylon gear, because it just doesn’t get as hot in the sun.

What blends in best for skulking around in the woods post-apocalypse? No idea, and zero interest…
