If I want to mount a light on my AR...

…do I need to have a rail system? Is there a way to mount a light without a rail, and if so, does it work well?

I have plans to purchase 2 (maybe 3) ARs before the end of the year (I have none right now), and the only things I know I’ll be putting on them are optics and a light. So obviously, if there is a way to securely attach a weapon-mounted light without the added expense of the rails, that would be great.

Not hard at all. Works better than most. G2, GG&G mount and ring, GG&G handguard rail.

hey could you post a picture of the attached rail .i like that i could keep my fat handguards:D thank you and would that be strong enough to mount a VFG from?

I have not had any POI change using this. Check out where the sling is attached now. No issues.

thanks I like the set up gave me a few ideas.if the sling function i say go with it:D

I also have the GG&G mount with a TRL1 on it. It works very well for me.

If you want to keep the standard handguards but attach a surfire g2 I would go with the GG&G mount here. I have on on my KISS rifle that the GF shoots, its a great rig, sturdy, inexpensive. Actually sometimes I envy the KISS rifle over the whiz bang one that I have at my place.
