Hello,
I’ve seen Doc’s recommended load list for 12"+ barrels but how about barrels from 8"-10"? Reduced penetration(12"+) as well as barrier blind loads will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Most of our testing has been on 12-16" barrels; however, for an 8-10", 85 gr TSX, 100 gr Accubond, 110 gr Horn OTM, 115 gr Rem CLUB are all good options. You might also consider the Horn 110 gr VMAX depending on what you are doing.
Thanks for your time, Doc.
Keeping the lower velocity in mind, do any of those loads destroy more tissue than the others within the first 15"?

Forgive my ignorance, but will the V-max 110 gr rd perform as a barrier blind rd?
No–but it superior to all but the best 5.56 mm loads…
Thanks Doc.
Please forgive me for nickel and diming you here but would you prefer one of these over the others out of a 10.5"?
Thanks for your time
What about SSA 95gr BARNES TTSX TACTICAL LOAD? I’m looking at getting either an LWRC PSD (8") or LWRC UCIW (7") in 6.8.

Excellent load. Pretty much the same as the 85 grain version except more penetration. Also has a lower expansion velocity of 1600 FPS versus the 85 grain’s 2100 FPS.
Does Hornady’s 110 grain BTHP rely on yaw or does it behave like a hollow point?
It is not particularly yaw dependent.
The shorter the barrel I would go with a lighter bullet. Example a 110 or 115 grain from a 16 inch barrel will have a velocity around 2,575 to 2,600 FPS. Those same rounds from a 8 inch will be around 2,200 FPS.
Now a 85 grain X or Etip are around 2,920 to 3,000 FPS from a 16 inch and in a 8 inch they are clocking in around 2,550 to 2,600 FPS depending on your weapons twist, and they are all barrier blind.
The 95 TTSX (also barrier blind) at SAAMI max (55,000 PSI) is doing 2,750 FPS with some hand loaders pushing it to 2,850 out of a 16 inch put they’re pressures are over 60,000 PSI. At SAAMI max from an 8 inch the TTSX is doing around 2,350 FPS.
The advantge goes to the lighter ETIP and TTSX out of a short barrel as both will expand at lower velocities and come out faster than the 110 or 115 grain bullets.
