I plan on using used brass in my Dillon SUPER 1050 and CCI 5.56mm primers ,H335 and Berrys bullets 55gr. FMJ and want to come close to federal MUZ VEL 3165 FPS or better. Anybody tried this before using H335 Powder?
You’re going to need TAC - CFE223 or BLC-2 to get close to 193 velocities in my experience. That is from memory, I’ll edit this after I check my manual, if I’m wrong.
ETA: I have 55 gr data @3200FPS for AR-Comp* - A2230* - H4895* - Norma201 - TAC* - BLC-2 - WIN748* - A2520 - CFE223 and Power Pro Varmit*
*Denotes max load, non * will get you to 3250 at max load.
Max loads for H335 will get you to 3100, I suppose you could try to push it if you’re feeling lucky. Not something I would do personally.
None of the 556 loads I have documentation for show data using H335.
If you don’t have one I recommend buying a manual or three.
I also got a 8lbs of CFE223. I just want to use up all my H335.
25g is a pretty good and close to max load. It will only get you about 3025-3050fps out of a 20" though, it’s too fast of a powder. Like HK said you’ll need a bit slower powder to push M193 velocities.
H335 is the commercial equivalent to military ball powder, no?
I’ve pulled down various military loads to find out their powder charge but I don’t have that data with me at the moment. I know it’s higher than what’s posted above and well over published max. Let me know if you want me to PM you that info later. I’ve replicated the loads using LC brass, CCI #41 primers & H335. My current blaster load is essentially a de-tuned M193, just so I can burn through the 41’s & H335 that I have.
The bigger question is why do you want to abuse your gun with such a hot load?
I’ve used 25gr and 26gr of H335 to duplicate the POI of M193 loads. Very hot for .223 loads, but I haven’t seen any signs of over pressure in my gun/brass.
H335 is fantastic for XM193 clones. I’ll have to check my recipe later but it is the powder to use.
As much as I like TAC for 77 grain bullets it really sucks on the 55s.
IMR 8208 XBR is my go to powder for EVERYTHING 223/556 related. Its to the point that I’ve brought all my other 223 powder into my Shop to sell.
Why someone would want to clone XM193 is lost on me.
But yeah… H335 will certainly do it. I load it at 25.0 for ammo I want to have flash with for silly fun. 25.0 is under 5.56 velocities… so you could work up from there.
I don’t necessarily make clones but I reload 55 gr fmj in range brass. It is an economical way to have blasting ammo.
I think the issue is why M193 velocities and is H335 the right choice to make those velocities. For blasting ammo just about any medium fast rifle powder will do.
Well around here, H335 is the same price as everything else. Even the better options cost the same. So I only keep a pound of it for comedy/amusement.
It is a ball powder, but all ball powders are not the same.
Pulling apart military ammo and looking at the powder is not a reliable way of telling the type of propellant.
I didn’t say they were identical powders. I said that I’ve replicated the military loads with what is assumed to be a commercially available equivalent powder. I did so by compiling data acquired by various methods used to replicate loads.
There’s your mistake right there. People also assume that BL-(C)2 is a “commercially available equivalent powder” to WC-846. The graph pictured below shows that this is clearly not so.

Wasn’t WC844 used in more modern era M193 rounds? Not sure if that still or ever was the case but I’ve read that numerous times. Likewise, I’ve also read H335 is very similar to WC844. Don’t shoot the messenger. This is only what I’ve read on various forums & it all could be completely false.
I also don’t think the OP was asking about making EXACT replicas (to your standards) only that he wanted to use H335 to get close the M193 velocities.
I used WC844 when it was available and used H335 load data. The 2 were always presented as equivalent, but not exactly the same. I always used 25g for both since that was close to max for H335. I never could get close to M193 velocities though. Maybe M193 and M855 that actually used WC844 had their charge weights jacked up, beyond what was recommended for H335.
I’ve seen reports of 193 having a charge weights up to 28.5. The ones I pulled averaged 27. I also read somewhere that the lots of WC844 varied to a degree that the charge weights also had to change accordingly. Not sure of the validity of that.
I couldn’t find my H335 data but it was well over max. Probably tossed it because I settled on a milder target load.
What do you use for low flash 55gr loads?
WIN 748 can be loaded to shoot FASTER than H335, with almost no flash. The difference is truly unbelievable. I shot 26.5 gr 748 against 25.0 gr of H335 out of an 11.5 one evening. There was no visible flash from 748, and a monster flash from H335.
