I-Shot/SERT Tactical Carbine Case

I recently met Helmie from I-Shot/SERT at the Practical Firearms Training Industry Day. He showed up with all of the usual plate carriers, pouches and assorted items you would expect to find but the build quality, materials and details show that every design is built from the ground up by shooters with no corner cutting to save costs.

One item he had that really interested me was the Tactical Carbine Case (TCC). It comes in various lengths including 30”, 36”, 42” and 46”and all are 13" tall and is available in various colors. They come lined with half inch foam and plastic inserts to help hold the shape of the case, decrease printing and protect the contents.

It is this unquestionable quality and attention to detail that has led FBI HRT and the Marine’s 4th Recon Bn to adopt these cases.

The interior of the main compartment is lined with MOLLE and comes with 4 straps to secure your long guns. You can also buy additional straps if needed.

Mine in a 36" model which makes for a fairly small case to toss in the constantly overstuffed trunk of my car but still provides ample room for a 16" AR with a loaded mag in cruiser ready condition. You can also fit two unloaded carbines if needed (nice for carbine classes when you want to bring a back up weapon)

My 18" barreled 870 with a reduced LOP stock also fits inside if you mount it at a diagonal.

The interior of the outer pocket is where my case differs from the production versions. Where the production cases have a fully MOLLE compatible pocket, mine is lined with velcro. No matter the mounting solution the result is an interior that you can quickly adapt to your needs as they change.

Mine is currently set up with the supplied 3 mag pouch which not only fits USGI/Pmag/TangoDown AR pattern mags but also G36s and AKs. It also stores my holster and universal pouches from DownRange Gear (one additional mag and a MultiTasker tool), a shot shell panel from Jones Tactical and a RSKTKR Medical RDK/Ontario Knives Rescue Cutter on a Tactical Tailor tear off panel.

Even with a fairly compact case I know have the ability to transport up to two rifles, mags, handgun with an extra mag, cool guy tool and a FAK all in one package.

Overall I can’t think of any changes I would make with this case. It seems built tough enough that even I will have a hard time destroying it and is versatile enough that I can quickly change it out to suit my needs no matter if it is a carbine or shotgun class, quick plinking trip to the range or simply a place to stow a patrol carbine in the trunk.

I got mine from Rob T at TacStrike as he is now carrying the TCC, the Compact Rifle Case (another slick piece of kit), and the rest of the I-Shot/SERT line on his site.

Good review. I have one and it is great.

I like mine but it sucks that civilians can only get BLACK… so I won’t be buying another.

The I-SERT case is much heavier than my Eagle cases

but I can’t complain. just an observation. Both are top notch.

I have had one of his 36" cases since 2005/2006 and it has held up nicely.

I have one of these cases for a duty AR. Great case in terms of both construction and design. I’ve not seen anything better for my use.

I know of people who wanted this same case (after seeing mine). They had a very difficult time obtaining these cases. Not sure why that happened, but they eventually gave up on it. However, that was some time ago and hopefully the supply/demand balance has been worked out.

It BLOWS that He shows the case in Dessert Tan in the phots but Only sells them in Black and Navy Blue…

and now includes triple mag poutch Free.... damn

Hey guys, if I may, let me answer your Qs.

Zenghost, we were very much behind on demand, I made some dumb decisions and it got harder to catch up. An overhaul was definitely required. Fast forward, we now have a new R&D department, a new production studio and we have a couple of new designs coming out between now and year’s end.

The product line has been completely split into the 2 separate brands. I-SHOT is now strictly shooting sports, ie, gear for IDPA, USPSA/IPSC, etc and just for plain ole plinking at the range.

All the LE and Mil gear has been spin off into a new entity, SERT. Should have posted here when the original press release came out in February. I know Soldier Systems still has it online. They have a link to our online workbook too.

Tzoid, ref the weight…no way we can get it any lighter with those plastic inserts in all 3 walls. It’s those inserts that add to the weight significantly. If you pulled 2 of those out from the main compartment, you’ll see the difference BUT that’s what makes our case different from the rest…the extra protection and reduced signature.

Ref the color…that was the original Tan that we came out with in the beginning that attracted the attention of the 4th Force Recon Bn. The cases were issued to their guys and we stop producing that Tan when the demand subsided. I have Coyote Brown and OD in line for production next. As far as quality is concern, the current production is probably the best and including that triple mag pouch has helped quite a bit

Finally, I’m grateful you guys are running our cases and they’ve worked out for all of you.

Let me know if I can answer any other Qs.

Thanks for the very nice review - looks like a good piece of kit. I use an older I-Shot range bag (Pro model, I think, but I don’t see it on the website) and its quality stuff and wears like iron. Customer service is top notch the one time I had a question - regarding a brass bag.
I guess it’s time to take a look at the TCC…

Regards,

Helmie,

Great to see you here. My original case is still doing great service. Guys this is a very well built piece of gear that offers a compromise between a soft case and a hard shell. The inserts give it some rigid protection against crushing when stacking gear bags and other stuff in your vehicle.

Rob

Glad to hear the cases have higher availability now. They have my highest recommendation, and I would not want to settle for anything less. Many cases look similar, but you really have to examine them to see the difference in the details provided by the SERT cases.

Rob, good to hear from you bro.

Gentlemen, may I introduce you to the gent who came up with the idea of having those plastic inserts in the TCCs. Rob was part of the original group that poured their ideas into the TCC and his made all the difference between our cases and others. As always, thanks Rob.

Ranger325, I’ve been getting quite a bit of flak for taking those Pro Shooters out. Running a limited production shortly to take some of that heat off me  Amazing that the original bag design has been around for more than 30 years. I saw the first one back in the late eighties and the guy who produced it was the founder of Al Mar Knives… Al Mar himself. I remembered drooling over his SERE knife and when I saw the bag. That design has come a loooooong way. What an incredibly talented man he was.

30 years - I’ll be damned; I had now idea the original bag was linked to Al. I have two of his neopreme scaled SERE folders from the '80s when I was a youngster at Bragg.

Very cool story - great product!! Glad to hear you’ll be making a few more.
