Gentlemen,
I’ve recently discovered a situation, that is still apparently unfolding, that involves this forum, (and one other I think), as well as some of the members here.
I recently traveled out of town with work this past two weeks, and I have recently returned to find out that numerous posts were made on this forum (and even a thread or two was started) without my knowing. I had very limited internet access while out of town, and the few times I actually did login, I didn’t notice anything out of the norm. Not even sure if I got on this forum? Of course, while out of town, I do not receive email notification of subscribed threads, as I do when I’m home.
However, what finally tipped me off, was some PM’s I found in my inbox, when I returned home late Fri evening.
It seems that my young 16 yr old nephew (who I introduced to firearms forums a while back, in an attempt to get him involved with shooting sports), has taken it upon himself to start posting under my name, and even sending out PM’s. I’m still trying to get to the bottom of this, but apparently he has pissed someone off- (or possibly more than just someone).
While my SENT PM’s were obviously deleted by him, there were still a couple PM’s that were RECEIVED PM’s, and this is what first alerted me to the situation.
I then did a search and found a number of posts and even a thread or two started that were unbeknownst to me.
My sister and her child (my 16yr old nephew), were constantly over here at my home housesitting, and feeding the pets while I was away. She actually hangs out alot during the day, as some of her close friends live right next door to me, and she likes being here. The downside is that my nephew has apparently been sneaking into the master bedroom, using my computer, and getting into my stuff. (yes, all the firearms are locked up). This is the first time he’s ever done something like this at MY house, and it’s only because I was away. He does however, have a history of similar actions, just not at MY house. Had I known he had even quit working his summer job, and was going to be with my sister, I would have NOT given him permission to be here while I was away…
In the past, I’ve encouraged him to get online and read the forums about firearms, bowhunting, motorcycles, etc, but this is the first time, I’ve seen him do something like this. He doesn’t have his own computer at home, so he doesn’t usually register with a forum, or post on the forums.
What this boils down to, is the fact that while he’s a good boy for the most part, he gets absolutely ZERO discipline (except when he’s with me). Not ONE of my sisters 4 children get even the SLIGHTEST bit of discipline/punishment.
I’ve fought with my sister for years about this.
Anyhow, what’s important here is that I owe some of you an apology -(and possibly more? of you, and I just don’t know it?) I extend my full apology to any and all of you, who might possibly have received rude, or disrespectful emails/PM’s or posts.
I assure everyone, that this will NEVER happen again. I am remodeling this house, and the door locks were getting changed anyway, and my nephew will never again use my computer again, with OR without my permission. Unfortunately, he will not receive the punishment he deserves, in fact, he won’t receive any punishment at all, but I WILL make hime apologize to anyone who deserves it.
I personally am responsible for this mishap, and take full responsibility. I should have put a functional door lock on the master bedroom.
I guess I could have logged out, but honestly, I never log out of the forums, since I’m normally the only one using my computer.
Again, my FULL apology to ANYONE who deserves it, and rest assured this will not happen again.
I will be sending out a couple PM’s to those who deserve an apology…
One more thing to mention I almost forgot. I also had an email in my inbox, that was quite odd to say the least. Here is a copied and pasted version of it. It basically said “Mail Delivery Subsystem, Returned Mail”, or something like that, and it also had an ATTACHMENT with it. The attachment has TWO seperate options to choose, neither of which I’ve read. One says: “ATT00009.dat”, and other part of the attachment says “New Private Msg at M4Carbine.net”.
Anyone know what this email is? NEVER seen one like it before, and I’m not sure if I should open the attachments or not???
Note, Update - I just have just found out this was nothing to do with the above situation. Apparently a sent email to another fourm member, was rejected, and sent back to me I think. Not sure why? , but it had nothing to do with the above situation.
