…but if you attempt to claim the insurance at some point you will probably have to actually describe the item that was in the box, no? That would make life difficult. I don’t believe it is their policy to simply cut you a check for the stated value of the box contents if they lose the box. If I’m wrong about that, happy day…but I don’t think I am.

I guess this is easy for me because I work with the stuff. I can just make something up and tell them a specific equipment that was in the box which is close to the value of the gun.

…Until they find your package in the corner of some warehouse, forgotten there by accident, and open it up. Then you’ll be charged with insurance fraud, a federal offense.

My experience with FEDEX and every other shipper is that “Overnight” shipping is contingent on what time you drop your package off - if you drop your package off after 1600, for example, it might not get delivered the next day, but the day after that. Might you have missed something in the fine print?

Why you use words other than gun and firearm. Make your own tag at the distribution center, they aren’t going to ask anything about technical words they don’t understand.

Let’s say you’re shipping a noveske away for custom work/paint, you might write “N4 Recce” instead of “Noveske rifle.” Or for just an upper, just write “upper receiver.” Chances are they have no idea what that is.

There are plenty of things you can say that will be honest if you have to collect insurance, and that aren’t obvious. The idea is to make them mess up and miss it. I still can’t see why saying “machined metal parts,” could be an issue. You’re paying for the full insurance value, and most firearms things are in fact machined metal parts.

I dropped it off at 0900. It was shipped out that day and was supposed to arrive by/after noon the next day.

What you just described is what I already do. However, the poster I replied to was indeed describing an act of insurance fraud:

That’s illegal. Nothing wrong with using the correct technical terms, such as FCG instead of “trigger,” or upper receiver components instead of “barrel”, but lying on an insurance claim by claiming you shipped something else of similar value is considered “soft fraud” and is a quick way to jail.

I am pretty sure that non-FFL’s can ship firearms USPS as long as they are going to an FFL. I would think that their rates would also be cheaper.

Can’t ship handguns, only FFLs.

And thank GOD I can, when FedEx and UPS started to require handguns go overnight I almost stopped selling them altogether. Flat rate boxes changed all that.
