I need options on permed FH on a 14.5 with a 14" DD Lite rail

which FH’s can be permed to a 14.5 with a 14" DD Lite rail?

I thought I would have more room to work with on this configuration and really wanted to pin a PWS CQB. I wanted the look of a substantial muzzle device coming out of the rail. Is there something that will give me that look and work with this barrel/rail combination? Will a Troy Claymore work? Do I have any other options?

There is 3/8’ from rail end to barrel tip and 1" from rail end to crush washer shoulder. And I’m meassuring 1.2" inside diameter on the Lite rail

I am not an expert but it looks like you might need a 12" rail. Your problem will be clearing the vent ports past the 14" rail you have. Maaaaybe a phantom will work. If not, maybe a YHM.

A Troy or BC 1.5 would work. If it’s long enough the Levang linear compensator would clear it and not carbon up the rail.

The levang would direct a lot of the carbon forward of the rail, though I’d still go with the BC1.5 and trade somebody for the 12" Lite rail. I’m probably biased on that last bit, since I’d trade my 12" for a 14" on my SPR.

+1 on the Levang for both looks and effectiveness. The bitchy part is that you’ll have to pull your tube to pin and weld the hump on. Ah well the things we do for fashion hey?

Are those actually installed on an upper?

That doesn’t look right for a 14 on 14.5

I just measured my DD Lite rails, I have 10.0, 12.0 and 14.0 from the back of the rear mounting ring (even with the front of the receiver) to the from of the rail:

10.0 measured 9 7/8"
12.0 measured 12 1/2"
14.0 measured 14 7/8"

That’s weird.

The Troy Clamore will work perfectly.

I’ve run this combination before with a Phantom. While it did work, it was very muzzle heavy compared to a 12 or 10" rail. I no longer recommend it. IMHO it transforms a handy barrel length into something that actually handles worse than a 16" barrel in terms of overall balance.

I would agree.

I would recommend the OP take TehLlama up on the swap offer.

Thanks guys! I have a Troy Claymore inbound to see what it looks like.

Yes that is a complete assembled upper. Thanks for the measurements on the different rails. I saw your photos elsewhere showing how the threads on a 10.5 barrel cleared a 10" Lite rail…I assumed the 14.5/14 combination would give me the same.

This is a lightweight, mid-length gas, 14.5 barrel. With an A2 on the front, no sights, no magazine and a CTR on the back end and this thing balances right between the T11 and T12 slots. Add a heavier FH and a front sight and you’d need something more then a CTR out back but my plan was to run a UBR anyway. Gunfighter or competitor I’m not so it’s fine for me.

Suit yourself, luckily when you get tired of that long heavy rail, the lite rails swap out really easily without having to loosen the barrel nut and disassemble the upper.

I absolutely love my 14.5" setup with a 12" DD LITE rail. I’m not a big guy, but at 6’1" the 12" rail provides just the right length for me…so I cannot imagine a 14" rail or that it balances that well with a CTR. I would think a UBR or ACS would be needed to really balance the rifle out.

I do like the look of the tucked KX3 or similiar flash hider, but I’ve never built one even though I thought I would with my SBR. I hope you decide to keep the 14" rail and not chop it down like some on TOS said to do, mainly because I want to see how it turns out and how it handles once “loaded” down.

Thanks

The UBR will indeed make the balance right.
The light middy 14.5" are great barrels, and while they’re a great base for scary light rifles, if this is more effective for you then you’ve definitely made a better choice.

If you can get that Troy Claymore FH on, I think it will turn out pretty sweet in spite of the mis-measure.

I just ordered the same LW 14.5" middy upper from Smartgunner, only with a FSB and the DD Lite 12 FSP rail and Phantom. Can’t wait!

The BC 1.5 is the cat’s ass… that’s a technical terms :sarcastic:
