I hope some you guys can help me out. I’m building a new 16" upper receiver and have a budget as far as a barrel goes ( I’m not buying the $99 bbl or custom fluted/coated in…). My budget for a bbl is $175-$225. I was looking at the Faxon 4150 qpq socom barrel and also the rainier arms select medcon. Might I mention, this is not a plinker or target rifle. This is a battle/shtf rifle.

The Rainier Select Medcon is a stainless barrel. I would stay away from stainless on a battle rifle.

Ok, the rainier is out of the question then. What about the Faxon?? I have a lil wiggle room but not much as far as price. I’m just not trying to pay $300-400 for a barrel.

Look at the barrels from Sionics, also. I have no personal experience with them, but I wouldn’t have a problem purchasing one.

Sionics barrels don’t have the
.750 gas whole other than the chrome lined which I’m not a fan of. I like the Geissele super gas block. What about green mountain barrels?? Are they any good? I do know that many name brand company outsource their barrels and put their names on them on the retail end.

You want a “battle rifle” barrel and wrote off Cr lined from the get-go?
What do you expect it to do? Rate of fire, round count you want it to last, accuracy requirements?
I would like a round count of at least 15-20k.

Not sure what you mean by a .750 “gas whole”.
This is a very good option and we have had very good results from them as for as accuracy and overall performance. They are also per-dimpled and properly gassed.

If you are going to shoot 15-20k rounds, just buy a Colt 6920 and run it until the barrel wears out. By the time you pay for 15,000 rounds of ammo at thirty cents a pop, you will have long forgot how much the rifle cost, let alone the price of a replacement barrel
Let’s amortize the cost per shot after shooting 15,000 rounds
Colt 6920 base cost $850. Cost per shot- $.06
15,000 rounds of ammo- $4500. Cost per shot- $.30
In other words, you’ve expended five times the cost of the rifle in ammo alone!
Let’s say you get an FN 4150 CMV chrome lined barrel for $250 and it lasts 10,000 rounds, a reasonable life expectancy for this barrel-
Barrel cost per shot $.025.
That’s two and a half cents per shot and you have still spent $3,000 to wear that barrel out
What if you get a 6920 and put 10,000 rounds through it-?
Colt 6920 cost per shot $.085. Eight and a half cents
You’re better off worrying about paying for all that ammo
…or you could just get a barrel or even a complete Colt 6920 and go shoot

You don’t want to spend $300 on a barrel but you have $5k for ammo?? I would be surprised if more than 10 members here shoot more than 15k out of the same barrel.
