Beautiful, this is my next step after I get rid of my Xterra, really like it, but its got little things that are starting to go on it. I miss my 4Runner for the predictability
How is the 4runner superior to a crew cab Tundra?
With the Tundra you have enough passenger capacity to accommodate many people, plus a pickup bed that’ll accommodate mucho gear from kayaks to lumber. I lay my kayaks in the bed with an goal post lookikng extension I slip into the receiver hitch.
I also put a camper cap on mine that matches the paint of the truck and keeps rain off and adds security to whatever I’m carrying.
Size is a major one. The 4Runner is easier to park, fits down more trails, and will have better approach and departure angles as well as be less likely to high center off road.
Gas mileage is also better than the 5.7 Tundra. That thing is thirsty compared to the 4.0 V6.
But I agree, the Tundra is a good alternative if you need a bed.
Ive had good dealings and bad dealings. I have walked away numerous times and gone somewhere else and told them “I was looking at xxxxxx dealership and they were a bunch of assholes” and they generally say “yea we get that a lot”.
I just bought a VW last week. Walked in, had the deal I wanted printed out(other dealership on other side of the state had crazy deals going on, but didnt have the car I wanted), asked if they could match it, they did. I filled out finance app, got approved, signed everything. In and out in an hour-hour 30 including the test drive and delivery demo bull shit. Fantastic process and I got a smoking deal.

When I bought my Jeep last year I was there for 6 hours between the haggling, financing guy, etc… Not on the price of the Jeep because it was fixed through employee purchase through my company. I was haggling over my trade in, $500 to be exact. I finally told the dude at about the 4 hour mark “we’re haggling over $500 on a $43k deal, if you all dont want to do the deal, let me know, there are 10 other Jeep dealers in St. Louis and you all are just wasting my time to get me to agree to giving up $500”. Deal was done 10 minutes later, then the inevitable “you’re 8th in line for the finance guy” on a ****ing thursday afternoon no less.
Oh and obligatory giant Jeep picture(just got done building it early April). Its only right in a Yota post.

we had a Tacoma and looked at those again but for us the dogs in the back in PHX in summer would not be very nice to them this way they can be cooler inside the rig along with our other stuff ![]()
those pros are sweet
but sadly not willing to pay the extra coin
but love that color they had a tundra pro at the dealer I was at
but the tundra wont fit in our garage a touch to short !
a pro tacoma or 4runner would be awesome to have would love to have a Tacoma again as a second vehicle !
then again I can paint mine whatever I want
hahahhahahaha
hahahahaha Maui
spent time on big island as a kid but no remember that ? to little
but went to school near Seattle my dad decided schools were to bad in the islands
to me its the mental chill attitude and the fact island folks have a more awesome sense of humor and sarcasm and because its such a melting pot the whole race thing gets put behind being local first
local haole or local pordugee no worries you local first
but there is racial tensions for sure sadly
also there much more ohana which we keep here and much more getting out with people etc…
example Thanksgiving dinner in your carport
that way when other neighbors are out you can see them talk with them etc… same thing Xmas dinner in carport
those from the islands know what I am talking about the car port is the outside room
when I lived in the Caribbean I honestly felt I had more in common with those folks coming from the islands as I did living on the mainland
but also true people are people and some are cool some are not just seems more chill fun people in the islands ![]()
rjacobs
nice looking jeep
my buds a huge jeep guy
and since mine is white I have to say awesome color choice ![]()
maybe I should have walked
I did walk from one dealer since I know the FJ and 4runner very well know they share the frame from Prados know the Fj are made in the Hino plant (spelling) and the 4 runner are the other Japan plant that does Lexus etc…
anway I was looking at a tundra saying I like these to but they wont fit in the garage
and we wanted a SUV first to replace our FJ so the 4 runner was my goal
he said well you can have both you know the 4 runner is built off the tundra frame
hahaaaahhaha
3rd row seating is an option in the 4 Runner. We’re looking at buying a Highlander right now for the wife.
I never have the one is superior only the attitude one is always better choice for a persons use ![]()
same reason I love jeeps as much as toyota rigs and while I love toyota more I dont poo poo on jeeps cause tis all good man !
If Toyota made the Wrangler, the world would be perfect.
Yep, a new FJ-40.
reason I bought my FJ when it came out was I had a FJ40 ![]()
would love some of the other overseas FJ models that were not common here and of course the hilux we cant get !!!
I try not to either, to each his own, thats why there are a lot of different cars made.
The local Yota guys to us are weird though. We invite them out to wheel, but none will ever come out. We ran into a group of about 10 Yota’s one weekend(mostly FJ’s and newer 4runners) and they were airing down. We asked if they wanted to come run with us(we only had about 6 Jeeps so small group) and they declined. About 2 hours later they were back in the main field airing back up and then they left. We figured they went out on the trail access roads, snapped a few pictures, and left. Hell they didnt need to air down for that. The place we were at is about the closest place to St. Louis that has decent wheeling, but its about an hour or more from town. We generally go friday night and dont leave till sunday afternoon and camp all weekend.
to bad its like that ![]()
guys here are pretty cool but some jerk on both sides but seems more jeep guys are jerks here and do bad things ? I also think its cause more folks have jeeps maybe so its just numbers
but some posted pics in closed off areas doing damage etc…
sounds like a good time for sure
one issue with our local group of FJ guys is they wheel hard really hard to the point every week someone is breaking tipping and some carnage is had
I cant afford to wheel that hard just want to get out
I was like that when I was younger and the group is mostly younger though so that might explain it ![]()
when I was young and fearless made good money I was insane and did not care what I broke
hahahahahaha
plus wife and my one kid get a bit freaked when the angles get really freaky and you start to hit the balance point and need some bodies on the side to hold you down kinda thing ![]()
just for fun do you guys use co2 tanks or compressors ? out here c02 tanks rule but I want that new arb dual compressor this time around ![]()
Everybody i wheel with uses air compressors. Most of us run those cheap ass mv50’s. One guy runs oba via a converted ac compressor.
Im looking at a better setup from vaiar, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Got a lot of other stuff to buy first.
If .gov allowed importation of the Hilux it would be a start.
Bro you need an Icon FJ!
icon are sweet
think it was the Jay Leno garage thing he had when they had one on that ?
but to much $ for me sadly ![]()
Those look awesome! So do the Broncos. But might be a little out of my price range for a toy. “The FJ40 starts at around $127,000.”
For gawd’s sake guys, don’t finance through a dealer.
I won’t go into all the details except to say if you finance using a dealer you’ll get hosed…
If you finance, generally speaking a credit union is the way to go.
