I FREAKIN knew it....

The ball is in Congress’s court to craft a compromise in reinstating regulations on assault weapons, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) acknowledged Tuesday.

During an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Pelosi said that the Congress will work to find some middle ground between the previous ban, which expired in 2004, and the precedent laid by the Supreme Court in a ruling enumerating more concrete gunowners’ rights last term.

“We have to find some level of compromise,” Pelosi said, citing 53 victims of gun violence nationwide in less than a month. “And we have to rid the debate of the misconceptions people have about what gun safety means.”

“Yes, it is,” the Speaker said when asked if the ball is in Congress’s court now that Democrats control the White House. “And we are just going to have to work together to come to some resolution.”

Pelosi indicated that new regulations might entail registration and prohibitions on transporting some firearms across state lines.

The Speaker also expressed displeasure at the attachment of a gun rights provision to legislation that would grant Washington, D.C. a voting member of Congress.

“Right now, we have the debate in Congress over the District of Columbia wanting a vote on the floor of the House, something we all want. That’s a civil rights issue,” she said, pledging to find “middle ground” on the issue. “And, yet, they want to put a gun…bill, attach that to that. I don’t — I don’t think that that should be the price to pay to have a vote on the floor of the House.”

I knew they were going to jump on this latest string of events.
I guess ammo prices aren’t going to drop anytime soon.

Pelosi says;

Wow Nancy!

My apologies to the people of DC for even suggesting that they have forced upon them, the rights guaranteed to them under the constitution, if they want a vote in congress.

I am glad that they aren’t talking about banning any firearms. Only regulating them.

Keep up the contacts with your Congresswimps and Senators. Especially those of you with blue dog democrat or otherwise middle of the road democrat or gun supporting democrats or middle of the road republicans.

Cannot let this get any traction.

So, Nancy, voting is a civil right but gun ownership isn’t?

That woman makes me puke.

Wotta pain the PELOSI! :mad::mad::mad:

Maybe they should read this poll. Support for gun control has been fading.

That is probably why they are softening their rhetoric a little. Instead of talkiang about bans, they are talking about “compromise” and regulating the ownership of certain firearms.

They’ll talk about common sense, and people who don’t know any better will just nod their heads in agreement.

Which “blue dogs” are those? The ones that have voted 100% the same as the liberal Democrats? Or the ones that have voted 90% the same as liberals?

My point is that the label “blue dog” is just a marketing hoax, the same as Obama’s tax cut rhetoric during the campaign.

I don’t agree – there are lots of pretty conservative democrats. However, your point actually supports what I was saying.

Those democrats who are generally favorable to our cause need to feel the pressure because a lot of their votes are forced upon them due to their party leadership and party discipline through the whips etc. It does not matter what they personally think, they basically have to support those bills that the patry leadership supports are they lose benefits (re-election help, or committee assignments, or whatever). THOSE are the ones that need to feel the heat so they can push back on their leadership.

My friend, I wish you were correct, but I fear not.

Peruse (the original meaning) this article for facts and figures:

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NDA2ZWZiYWM0OGJhOWUwNjk1NTQ5N2QwOTI5YzFiOTQ=

zum Beispiel: “On the big issues, the Democrats quietly condone the loss of an “acceptable” number — but only an acceptable number — of Blue Dog votes.”

Aloha.

M_P

I am not sure how that means I am not correct. It just goes to show that party discipline and party line voting is strong: “The incident fits the Democrats’ modus operandi of letting Blue Dogs demonstrate their fiscal austerity — so long as the votes don’t affect the ultimate outcome.” For example.

I am not saying that BD Dems are some great group, but they are significantly more conservative than the party leadership in their personal outlooks. That does not mean they are arch conservatives. But often they more or less vote the party line no matter what – the Dems are good at that sort of party discipline.

Anyway, my original point is still valid. That is the group that needs to feel the biggest heat on the gun issue.

Unlike the current administration, I am willing to say “we can agree to disagree.”

I hope you are right.

M_P

What exactly are you disagreeing with?

Are you saying that the BD Dems do NOT need to feel the heat?

Or the academic definition of BD Dem and do they really exist or is it smoke an mirrors?

The first is important. The second more or less irrelevant.

OK, last post on this.

What ever bill Nancy wants to pass will pass, whether or not you put “heat” on blue dogs, green cats or pink hamsters. She has done the math before the bill hits the floor, friend. Deals are cut with members on for/against votes as long as the whip has the total yes or no the leadership wants - before the session starts. You are living in a dream world if you think a congressman cares what the voter wants.

Reid will get 60 votes for cloture if he wants them. Be assured that a RINO will sell us out if that is what is needed. Do you think Spectre was the first Senator to rollover? Do you think he didn’t get a quid pro quo out of that?

M_P

Again, you reinforce my point. If she does the math and sees a bloodbath of losses in 2010 it won’t pass. That is why you put the heat on. If enough of her own party tells her that this will be bad for them in 2010, she will rethink it.

You are living in a dream world if you think a congressman cares what the voter wants.

They care about getting relected. So obliquely they do care about what a voter wants. That is why enough heat will work. However enough is a big amount.

Witness the immigration defeats last year. That does not mean they won’t keep on trying.

Pelosi’s statement a very weak trial ballon.
This is why Pelosi has no real traction in Congress when it comes to gun control:

Public opinion has changed since the early 1990’s. Gun-grabbing is not a vote magnet anymore.

Harry Reid has a good 2nd Amendment voting record , the potential for any significant gun-grabber bill to get past the Senate is almost zero.

Expect a bill to be intro’ed in the House , watch the number of co-sponsors.
Unless or until it hits over 140 out of the 435 members , it means nothing , nada,
ziltch.

That is all going to change.

They have already started the wheels in motion to get gun grabbing back in fashion with the US guns in Mexico BS.

Pelosi has ramped up to stage two by harping on the shootings they had in the last 30 days or so. The “news” will start running with that and then President Obama will ramp it with his awe shucks BS.

The best thing I have heard in a long time is how all these newspapers are going under. All the MSM sucks ass, but when it comes to firearms the newspapers are the worst.

They just pulled the Racist gun nut card tonight on AC360, its gonna be the 90s all over again

Damn, I just got rid of all my 90’s clothes

Just when ammo and guns were starting to fill back up in my local shops.
