I show up at work today at our office at Ellington Field here in Houston, to find out it that it is the staging area of 4 of the storm recon aircraft poised to fly into Isaac. Along with all the press covering the event was a ton of Air Force support folks and the crews. I think this is the main base of operations.

Any idea on how many of these sensors they deploy in a hurricane? I’m trying to picture dozens of these descending by parachute(?) and then being slung around by the high windspeed. Wonder if they are recoverable by locating beacon to be reused. Must be one heck of a ride to fly into hurricane. A lot of brass!
