Specifically he had the Mauser branded one that looks to be a dead on(appearance and internals) copy of the external extractor version FN made until the MkII came out.
That got my curiosity up due to owning one of the other FEG produced Hi Powers for several years that had parts interchangeable with FN produced guns except for having more meat along the back strap than an FN pistol that I only noticed iafter the back strap from a Pachmayer wrap around wouldn’t fit. It is noticeable in some of the Type I pics where the metal stands proud of the rear of the grip panels.
The other PJK-9HP(type II above) with weird vent rib appears to have a standard back strap profile, but the bottom of the front strap has a lip sticking out, better pics here.
As mentioned above, the Mauser labeled one appears to be an exact copy.
One thing he mentioned that I wonder about the accuracy of, was the claim that FEG had a license from FN for awhile. I don’t recall ever reading that on Stephen Camp’s Hi Power forum prior to his death and there were several Hi Power examples imported 15-20 years ago shown in threads that were allegedly counterfeit made by FEG complete with FN markings and were “identified” via quirks with serial numbers. Other than that possibility, all of those pistols appeared to be exact copies to include the grip profile.
