I have recently purchased some hsgi tacos pouches and have been impressed with their quality.
Know I am looking into there wasatch plate carrier does any one here run one and what’s the opinion on these?
I really like the fact that these can hold internally a dozen magazines leaving enough room outside for a holster an additional pistol magazine pouches and ifak . I was also looking at the side plate kit that you can get as an add on.
I haven’t had one of these in a long time, but here’s what I’ve learned overall.
Keep your plate carrier and your chest rig separate. It seems convenient and more sensible, in application it can really suck. And you don’t want 12 mags…that’s just unpleasant, unless you’re the well gunner and you aren’t carrying anything. None of this is a ding on HSGI, they make great stuff. I would just avoid an integrated chest-rig-carrier-thing.
Although I’ve never owned one, I would not recommend the Wasatch carrier. Nothing against HSGI, they make some great stuff like the TACO pouches, but plates carriers is not their strong point IMO. I own plenty of HSGI gar, but I would look elsewhere for a plate carrier. Their carriers are somewhat old tech by today’s standards. Look at the favorite plate carrier poll thread stickied at the top of this forum section. There are innovative carriers from Crye, Mayflower, SKD Tactical, First Spear, and many more that are worth consideration.
Before you buy something that holds 12 mags, ask yourself if you really need to carry 12 mags. More always sounds better, but most find that 3-4 extra mags on their person is enough and wont weight you down. Read a few more threads in this section ans you will see the carriers and setups that most prefer.
Great concept. BUT plate rides low. Definitely need plates in it to judge it though. I tried it on without and was disappointed. Put some in and ride was much better. But has kind of a floppy feeling when mags start disappearing. Definitely not an active shooter’s rig. Seems like more of a grunt setup for lots of gear.
